WEM Board approves teacher contracts

The teaching contracts of 12 non-tenured teachers and two tenured teachers were approved by the WEM Board of Education during their Monday, May 22 meeting.

Tenured teachers receiving contracts were Carrie Brown and Samuel Gavin.

Non tenured teachers receiving contracts for 2023- 2024 included Max Haakonson, Bridget Reuvers-Slinger, Haley Schaaf, Britta Robran, Alyssa Schmidtke, Amber Karels, Madysson Dufault, Kelci Halvorson, Andi O’Neil, Mary Ann Eich, Tyson Cooley, and Skyler Petry.

In other WEM Board of Education business:

• The board accepted the resignations of two employees effective the end of the 2022-23 school year. They were art teacher Katharine Brown and 5th grade teacher Rachael Wetzel.

• Alyssa Hanson was hired as an Early Learning Coordinator/Lead teacher.

• Communications Coordinator Margo Kulseth had her employment terminated effective May 12.

• Approved summer school staff are teachers Susan Michael, Patty Whitehurst, Kaitlin Zellar, and Max Haakonson, and principal Bobbie Jo Bastian.

• The teaching contracts of probationary teachers Andrew Seiffert and Clark Taynton were terminated by a unanimous roll call vote.

• The board approved the contracted agreement with Minnesota Valley Education District for teacher of Deaf/ Hard of Hearing.

• The 2024-2025 academic calendar was approved. With Christmas and New Years being in the middle of the week, during the school year the holiday break will start with an early dismissal on Friday, Dec. 20 and a return to school Thursday, Jan. 2.

• The board approved the project development agreement with Nexus Solutions for a comprehensive facilities improvement program for the school district.
