A & H Center showcases Thomas Miller's art

A professional artist from southern Minnesota has entered his work in several state and federal wildlife art competitions over the past 23 years and has his work in private collections in 45 states and five countries.

Through September 24, Thomas Miller is displaying his work at the Montgomery Arts & Heritage Center, 206 1st St N. Miller’s entries in state and federal contests date back to 1999 with his first entry in the 1999 Federal Duck Stamp Contest. He placed 13th out of 243 entries. In the spring of 2002, Tom placed fourth in the Minnesota Turkey Stamp Contest, third in the Minnesota Duck Stamp Contest, and 13th in the Federal Duck Stamp Contest.

In 2003 Tom was 13th in the Federal Duck Stamp Contest for the third time, but in 2005 he placed ninth for his best finish in the federal contest.

In 2011 Tom placed fourth in the Iowa Duck State Stamp Contest. The next year, he made the finals again and was eighth in the federal duck contest, and in 2015 he was also ninth in the same contest.

At the Arts & Heritage Center, Miller’s display takes visitors on a journey through his early works from when he was a senior at Le Center High School in 1972 to his most recent entries in the federal and state contests.

Although he had a God-given talent that he honed through studying, it wasn’t until the early 1990s when famous and prolific Minnesota painter Kevin Daniel began to mentor him.
