Score! Workers finish rehabbing tennis, pickleball courts
Tennis and pickleball players now have a rehabilitated outdoor court at North Side Park to play on.
Workers from C & H Sports Surfaces Inc., which specializes in tennis, basketball, and pickleball courts, and running tracks, worked on Montgomery’s court for over a week and a half. According to owner Tim Carlson, his team started on Tuesday, June 21 filling the cracks and lower areas using an acrylic crack filler and leveler. They followed that with two color coats before the tennis and pickleball lines were applied on Wednesday, June 29.
Years of neglect cause the job to take longer than normal.
“Because it was so rough, we could only do a coat (of filler and leveler) a day, when normally we can put on two or three coats a day,” he said.
The cost for that portion of the rehabilitation job was $16,500.
Work also included work on the lights. Kriha Electric replaced the halogen lights with LED ones that will flood the courts with light in the evening. The cost for the lighting, including installation and disposal of the old lighting, was $7,820.
In addition to the lighting, Kriha also included an option to have the existing poles refurbished. That included sandblasting and repainting that was done last winter. The cost for that was $3,200.
The rehabilitation of the courts is part of the Park Advisory Board’s comprehensive multiyear improvement plan. Other improvements this year include the installation of the hockey rink in the area north of Hickory Avenue, renovating the southern restroom at Memorial Park to comply with accessibility requirements, installing can lighting and metal ceilings in the shelters at Memorial and North Side Parks, and completing more prairie restoration and walking trails at the North Ridge Recreation Area.
