Indoor softball team pounds its way back to state tournament
A year after they surprised the field with a strong performance win at the state tournament, the New Prague indoor softball team is heading back to state hoping to put both facets of the game together to enjoy another strong showing.
The Trojans open state tournament play Friday, June 2, 8 p.m., against Osseo, at Chanhassen High School in Gym B. A victory would advance the Trojans to the semifinals against the winner of the Dakota United vs. South Washington County game. The semifinals will be played Saturday, June 3, noon, in Chanhassen High School’s Gym A. The championship game will be played at 3:45 p.m. in Gym A and the third-place game will be played at 3:15 p.m. at Chanhassen High School’s Gym B. New Prague defeated South Washington but fell to Dakota United during the regular season.
A setback against Osseo in the opening round moved New Prague to the consolation bracket Saturday morning, 9 a.m., at Chanhassen High School’s Gym A. The consolation finals will be played Saturday, 2 p.m., in Chanhassen High School’s Gym C.
The other teams in the tournament include the St. Cloud Area Sluggers, Chaska/Chanhassen/Prior Lake/Shakopee, Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville and White Bear Lake Area.
New Prague entered the indoor softball state tournament having won two of its last three games. The Trojans beat Stillwater and South Suburban handily after a tough loss to Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville. New Prague has also defeated South Washington County earlier this year but suffered a setback against Dakota United.
