Marvin J. ‘Marv’ Novotny, 72

Marvin J. ‘Marv’ Novotny, 72 of Houston, TX (formerly) of New Prague, MN, passed away on Tues. Aug. 24, 2021. Marv was born Oct. 31st 1948 in New Prague to Louis & Helen (Bartusek) Novotny.  He attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School and graduated from New Prague High School Class of 1966. 

Marv attended the U of M and was a lifelong Gopher fan.  Upon his college graduation, he was drafted into the Army where he served his country in the Vietnam War.  Marv was very patriotic and loved his country.  Upon his return to the U.S., he began his 33-year career with Cargill.  His career took him all over the US.  He worked in several Cargill divisions but most of his time was spent as Plant Superintendent of their export grain elevators. 

He met and married his wonderful wife, Shirley D. Harris on June 28, 1975.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Helen. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley, his two sons.  Jonathan, Christopher, and his wife Tricia, and his two grandsons, Luke and Nathan, who meant the world to him.  He is also survived by his much loved only sibling, Ronald Novotny, and his wonderful wife, Mary, and their three sons, Jeff, Mike & Jarrod and their families.

He loved all the areas of the country he transferred to, and made many life-long friends along the way: however, Texas became his home.  Marv was a charter member of Atascocita Methodist Church and had a deep love for the church and all the people, his friends.  He was a man of strong faith who loved God, his family, his friends, and his country.

He will be greatly missed.  His celebration of Life Service was held on Sat. Oct. 30th at 10 am at Atascocita Methodist Church in Houston, TX. His interment service was held on Oct. 9th in Amery, MS.
