Reopening of post office to be decided

The date for the reopening of the New Prague Post Office was tentatively set for Monday, Nov. 1. Tentative proved to be the operative word as a message in the door of the Post Office on Main Street had the November 1 date scratched out and “TBD” (To Be Decided) written in.

The New Prague Times contacted the Postal Service about the reopening of the city’s Post Office and received an email from a representative of the US Post Office that there are some issues with the internet connection and management is working with the service provider to resolve the issue. The US Post Office will make an announcement when an opening date is determined.

The New Prague Post Office has been closed for roughly two and-a-half months now as it closed on Saturday, Aug. 21, with a closure of 26 days expected so that work could be done on the floors of the structure.

Services for New Prague are still being handled by the Prior Lake Post Office, 4455 Village Lake Dr. SE. Hours for that office are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. They can also be reached at 952-447-1062.

Customers who have PO Boxes in New Prague have been using temporary cluster boxes outside of the front of the New Prague Post Office.

Mail can still be dropped off at the blue mail boxes and will be picked up from there. Boxes can also be dropped off at the blue mail boxes as long as the box fits and customers do not try to cram them into the box. Customers can also leave a box at their home mail box or go to www.usps.com and request at package pick up.
