When Dalton Grose of Waterville went to work Wednesday morning the last thing he thought he would be doing is saving someone’s life.
But thanks to his quick thinking and subsequent actions, Grose saved the life of a Blue Earth senior citizen Sept. 19.
According to the Albert Lea Police Department, they were contacted at approximately 9:49 a.m. concerning a vehicle involved in a crash in Fountain Lake.
Once they arrived on the scene, officers observed a pickup truck sinking approximately 30 feet off the shore, according to information they had on their Facebook page.
Grose and his co-worker from ISG, Kelly Herfendal, were doing lake weed vegetation surveys on Fountain Lake in Albert Lea Wednesday morning when they heard the crash.
A vehicle driven by 85-year old Blue Earth man Dwight Martin Weise drove into the front yard of a residence on Harriet Lane, hit a retaining wall, and hit a second retaining wall before entering the lake.
According to the police department, Harriet Lane is a small, residential road that contains no outlets to other roads.
Grose said once they heard the crash they drove their boat to the area where the truck was and they called 911. They were about 100 yards away from the crash site.
“We were watching to see if anyone was getting out or if there was someone in the truck,” Grose said. As they were driving the boat to the location a lot of things flashed in their minds about what might have happened to cause this accident.
