Indians advance to Region 6C Tourney Waterville downs Morristown in 13-60 League Playoffs

The Waterville Indians will make another trip to the Region 6C Amateur Baseball Tourney. Morristown will need to win one more game to advance.

These two teams met Sunday, July 24 in Waterville in the 13-60 League Semifinals, with the Indians picking up an 11-4 victory.

Waterville, ranked No. 5 in the latest Class C State Poll, will now host Wells Sunday, July 31 for the 13-60 League Tournament Championship and the No. 2 Seed in the Region 6C Tourney, which starts Saturday, August 6 in Waterville. Game time has not yet been determined.

Morristown will need to defeat Janesville Saturday, July 30 to advance. The Morries will host the Jays. In the other consolation bracket game, the winner of the Waseca vs. Minnesota Lake game will also advance. The winners of these two games will play Sunday, July 31 for Region 6C Playoff seeding purposes.

The game Sunday between Morristown and Waterville started out with six combined runs scored in the opening inning, four by the Indians. Then the bats went silent, with the Morries scoring a single run in the third and not another run until the eighth inning. The Indians did not score for five innings, but exploded for seven runs in the seventh.

Ben Lamont singled and scored and Bradley Van Deinse reached on an error in the first inning for Morristown.

Waterville countered with four runs in the bottom of the first. Shane Sellner and Josh Cook each had run scoring hits. Two other runs scored with the help of a Morries error.

Matt Saemrow walked to lead off the third and eventually scored, moving Morristown to within one run, 4-3.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, seven straight Indians scored against the combination of Saemrow and Richie Rients, who relieved Saemrow midway through the inning.

Ty Kaus picked up a pair of RBIs as did Nolan Grose and Cook. Ben Boran also knocked in a run for the Indians. In the eighth inning Tate Harmon led off with a walk and scored after singles by Richie Rients and his son Kolin Rients.

Saemrow pitched the first 6 1/3 innings and Rients finished the game.

Luke Sellner started for the Indians and pitched two innings. Dalton Grose tossed the next six innings. Tommy Gannon pitched a scoreless ninth, striking out all three batters he faed.

Bladyn Bartelt and Cook each had two hits for the Indians. The other seven starters also had one hit and eight of the nine starters scored at least one run.

Ben Lamont and Tate Harmon each had two hits for the Morries.

Tate Harmon pitched a complete game and Landon Harmon hit a home run for the Morries in their 7-4 win over Waseca Saturday.

The Indians won their 20th game of the season Wednesday, July 20, downing New Prague, 5-3.

Kaus was 2-for-2 with two RBI. Jayson Schneider was 1-for-1 with a run scored and an RBI. Shane Sellner and Ben Boran also knocked in runs against New Prague.
