Molter's Fresh Market, taking over the former home of Mackenthun’s Fine Foods at 105 Boulevard NW in Montgomery, is set to open on October 16.
The hours for the new grocery store will be Monday-Saturday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Contractors were already on site early this week preparing the location for opening.
Many have been wondering what changes may be in the works for the new grocer. Owner Mark Molter says, “I try not to change too much right away when you take over a store because sometimes you make mistakes with people. I like to talk to people and make gradual changes. I try to work with what I have because that is what people are used to and expect.”
He says the layout of the store will generally be the same but that he will be adding a brand new point-of-sale system. “There will be some savings for customers through our loyalty program to come through our app in the coming months. Right now, customers can download the app and use digital coupons with us,” Molter says.
Molter says that he will be expanding the deli and graband-go selections. One item noted was the availability of take-and-bake pizzas. “That’s where we really shine, in deli and meats,” Molter said. He said that they have a certified Angus program, just like Mackenthun’s. Molter also said it is possible that in the future he may expand the store to offer beer, wine and liquor, and possibly a small selection of hardware.
What about the kolackys though? Molter says, “We try to homogenize the bakery and bring in the local stuff.” He says that the popular items with the locals will stay.
