Robotics season is underway

Tri-City United’s Robotics teams dove into the competition season by recently participating in two, back-toback tournaments.
Mankato Tournament
Eight TCU Robotics teams competed in the Mankato Robotics Tournament on Dec. 16. Five of the participating Titan teams hailed from the middle school and three from the high school.
“The Mankato tournament is always our toughest of the year because unlike sports, robotics doesn't have divisions so we can play schools of any size,” explained TCU Robotics Advisor John Head. “The high school teams had a very tough day, with our three teams coming in 34th, 41st, and 43rd out of 44. One of our main disadvantages was that this was our first tournament of the season, where other teams that were competing already were on their second or third, giving them lots of time to rebuild based on lessons learned from the first tournament.”
TCU’s middle school teams fared better with Team Kool (Hank Sladek, Tyson Grant, Brennen Russek, Logan Dietz) earning the 5th place seed before the elimination rounds.
“This earned them an invitation to State,” Head explained. “So, a great day for that team!”
