Trojan athletes earn fall post-season awards

Nearly three dozen New Prague falls sports athletes and a couple of Trojan teams have received post-season honors in their respective sports.

Two athletes were named one of the best in their sports athletically and academically.

Senior Nathan Burkhardsmeier was one of 18 players named to the Class AAAAA Academic All-State Team. To earn this honor the player must be a senior varsity letterman for the current season who is a starter on either offense, defense, or special teams/kicking game. Players must have outstanding football and leadership ability plus academic excellence. A player must carry a 3.0 (4.0 scale) grade-point average in an academic core curriculum in his sophomore, junior and first quarter of the senior year.

Sophomore Emerson Dillon was named to the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association Class AAA AllState Team. She is the only sophomore selected to this elite 18-player team.

The New Prague volleyball and football teams both earned Academic All-State Gold Honors. The football team was named in Class AAAAA and the volleyball team was named with all other teams from the state.

All-District First Team football players for the Trojans included seniors Nathan Burkhardsmeier, Jake Hemann, Nick Giesen, and Aiden Jackson and juniors Henry Novak and Will Seymour. Named to the All-District Honorable Mention Team were seniors Matthew Schoenecker and Isaac Mejia and junior Michael Beckius.

The Metro West Conference honored many New Prague athletes in seven different sports.

In volleyball, senior Claire Baribeau and sophomore Emerson Dillon were named First Team and senior Kayla Thorsfeldt and junior Avery Klein were named to the Honorable Mention Team.

In girls cross country, 8th grader Maya Killen was named First Team and freshman Paige Swanepoel was named Honorable Mention.

In boys cross country, senior Liam Roufs was an Honorable Mention selection.

In girls soccer, senior Maddy Boulanger was named to the First Team and senior Lily Birkholf and freshman Ashlee Nelson were named to the Honorable Mention Team.

In boys soccer, senior Ryan DeNardo was named to the First Team and senior Charlie Denardo and junior Alex Quast were named to the Honorable Mention Team.

In girls tennis, sophomore Iris Trygestad was named to the First Team and juniors Ellie Thomas and Maggie Giesen were named to the Honorable Mention Team.

The girls swimming and diving team had nine honorees. First Team selections were juniors Payton Schieffer and Nellie Dalsin, freshman Taylor Bassett, and eighth-grader Carolyn DeLuca. Honorable Mention selections were senior Ava Barsness, junior Ella Lund, and sophomores Cassie Dworshak, Ava Bruegger, and Brooklynn Schrock.
