Joanne ‘Jo’ Marie Workman (nee Goltz) of Burnsville passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina.
Jo was born March 30, 1940 and raised on a turkey farm in Waterville, Minnesota. After high school, Joanne attended nursing school and entered the workforce as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was a nurse for over 40 years, 26 of those spent at Oxboro Clinic in Bloomington.

Richard Chambers, Jr., age 70 of Waterville, died surrounded by his family at his home on Thursday, November 22, 2018.
Richard “Dick” Chambers Jr, also known as “Red”, was raised and lived in Waterville, MN. He was drafted and served in Vietnam. We won’t forget the sacrifice he made for his country and future family. Early on he worked for Komatz Construction and then made a career at Farm Bureau Insurance. Later in life he also became a hobby farmer. He loved to help my brother with the field work whenever he could.

A new meal option is available in Waterville for those ages 60 and older who would benefit from others cooking healthy meals for them.
Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota (LSS) opened a new Senior Dining location at The Village in Waterville on Monday, November 12. The kitchen and dining site will provide hot, nutritious meals that will be available not only at the community center at noon, but also by delivery right to the doors of area residents, a service known locally as Meals on Wheels.

A Celebration of Life for Mr. Rolland “Rollie” Eugene Downhour, was held at Bayou Oaks Baptist Church in Monroe, LA Wednesday, August 15, 2018. Interment with military honors followed at Loch Arbor Baptist Cemetery in Monroe LA, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home.

As a child, Thanksgiving was magical. 
We’d wake to the aroma of turkey roasting and a sparkling house smelling of Pine-Sol. 
Little crystal dishes could be found throughout the house filled with nuts and those melt-in-your-mouth pastel mints, just in case someone couldn’t wait for the big feast. 
The football game was on and pages of Black-Friday deals were passed. 
Relatives’ shoes piled high near the door and big talk and laughter filled the house. 
Folding tables and folding chairs crowded the fun, but everyone had a spot when the turkey was done. 

Joyce Mae Wenker, age 72, of Morristown, died on Sunday, November 18, 2018, at her home in Morristown.
Funeral services will be at North Waseca Lutheran Church, Waseca on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Kristen Anderson officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Morristown.
Visitation will be at the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. and also for one hour prior to services on Wednesday.

Donna LaVonne Remiger, age 87 of Waterville died on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Traditions in Waterville

A Le Sueur County judge has ordered the Le Sueur County Historical Society (LCHS) to turn over all of its financial records and books, hold a fair and democratic election for members, and allow the additional members to join the lawsuit against it, among other things.
This order was filed on November 8.
A lawsuit was filed against LCHS on February 21 by 16 members who allege the existing board of LCHS has mismanaged the society, has murky financial dealings, and followed anti-democratic processes, which, they state are contrary to Minnesota law and LCHS bylaws.

Her son was just two years old when she boarded a military plane bound for Afghanistan.
Leaving was hard. Really hard.
But, the young mother knew that her military service was important and embraced her one-year deployment.
Sara (Southard) Warner of Waterville enlisted in the Army Reserve shortly after earning her General Education Diploma (GED) in 2004. She was 18.

Edgar Eggers was a kind man. He was an honest man. He was a caring man. He was a man of impeccable integrity. He was a good man who led a good life. This was our father, Edgar Eggers, who passed away early on the morning of November 9.
Our father focused on what is important in life. He really emphasized faith, family and fun and he made sure he gave quality time to all three. Maybe this is why he lived so long. When we ignore any of those three, the good life will escape us.

Edward William Atherton, age 75 of Elysian died on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at his home in Elysian.

Bernita Erna Spitzack, age 85, of Morristown, died Friday, November 9, 2018 at District One Hospital, Faribault.
Memorial services will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Morristown at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 15, 2018 with the Reverend Travis Loeslie, officiating. Interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Morristown.
Visitation will be at the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault, on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 from 3 to 7 p.m. and also for one hour prior to the services on Thursday.

For the third straight year, Mayer Lutheran has claimed the Section 2A volleyball championship by defeating WEM. The Crusaders, the No. 3 seed in the Section, pulled out a four set win over the Bucs, who finished the season 31-3. Two of those losses were to the Crusaders. Mayer Lutheran advanced to State and was defeated in five sets by Medford in the opening round of the Class A State Tournament Thursday, Nov. 8. The WEM football team, ranked 4th in Class AA, had its season ended Friday, Nov. 2 when No. 10 ranked NRHEG defeated the Bucs, 46-6, at JWP High School. The Panthers avenaged an early season loss of 48-6 to the Bucs as they gained more than 500 yards of total offense. Junior Brant Melchert scored the lone touchdown for the Bucs. Due to a decrease in funding from the state, Le Sueur County veterans will see a change in their transportation provided by the county.
Veterans utilizing the Le Sueur County Veterans Van will now be charged $10 per trip to the Minneapolis VA Hospital.
This change was approved during the Tuesday, Nov. 6 Le Sueur County Board of Commissioners meeting in Le Center.
According to Veteran's Service Officer Jim Golgart, the funding his department receives from the state has dwindled to between $1,500 and $2,000.

New mayors have been elected in Elysian and Morristown Tuesday, Nov. 6. Tom McBroom has been elected the Elysian Mayor, receiving 145 votes. Pat Nusbaum received 127 votes and Shawn Anderson received 78 votes. In Morristown, Tony Lindahl was elected mayor with 182 votes. Kurt Wolf received 156 votes and Rick Vollbrecht received 97 votes. The WEM building bond was approved by a wide margin, with 1955 people voting for the $19.3 million dollar bond and 1,154 voting against. In Waterville, Al Schmidtke remains the mayor, and David Wollin and Roy McIntyre remain the city council members.
