The Le Sueur County Board of Commissioners, in accordance with Minnesota Statutes Chapter 375, approved redistricting of the county commissioner districts during their Tuesday, April19 meeting.
The Statute establishes the procedure and requires a process for redistricting based on population figures from the 2020 federal census.
The commissioners districts must be redistricted within 80 days of when the legislature has been redistricted or at least 25 weeks before the state primary election, whichever comes first.

Belle Plaine High School, in conjunction with the Minnesota State High School Coaches Association, recently presented Dick Milinkovich a plaque for his 50 years in coaching. Milinkovich, a resident of New Prague and 1964 graduate of New Prague High School, was presented with the honor during Belle Plaine Award Nights after serving as the girls assistant basketball coach this year.

Are we sure that the month of April knows that April Fools Day has come and gone? I think most people will understand that reference since this April has been quite cold this year. We did hit the mid 50s and even got into the 60s for just a bit, although it was very brief. I’ll admit I didn’t mind the warmer temperatures, but I also wasn’t surprised when the temperatures dropped into the 40s and the 30s.

Tami M. ”Tootie” Elstad, age 56 of Backus, formerly of New Prague, was called home to the house of our Lord on April 19, 2022, dying suddenly from a heart attack. Tami was always full of life and definitely kept the party going.
 Tami was born on August 14, 1965 to Leo and Marilyn (Pavek) Odenthal at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague. Tami is the fourth of five children and is so very much loved by her siblings Bev, Bonnie, Brenda and Terry.

Two weeks ago, she was helping lead an expedition in Antarctica.
By the time you’re reading this, she’ll be guiding a snorkeling adventure in Palau.
Catching up with Kristin Wornson, a 1992 graduate of New Prague High School, isn’t easy. But, when you do catch up to the busy naturalist, travel guide, and jewelry artist, she’s a breath of fresh air.
Conversation isn’t rushed. Her love of nature— down to the tiniest of plants and iridescent sea slugs—is evident, and her passion for travel is contagious.

Charles H. Erickson, age 83, of New Prague, Minnesota passed away peacefully on April 20, 2022.  Charles was born to Andrew and Lilly (Batchelder) Erickson on December 11, 1938 in Colfax, WI.

Jerome A. Neisen, 'Jerry' aka Nipper, age 73, of Jordan, MN passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2022.
Jerry proudly served in the United States Army and lived a full life surrounded by a large family, good friends and many beloved animals.

Getting, Robert Lee, age 87 of Lonsdale, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2022 at his home. Bob was born on a farm north of Windom and graduated High School in 1954. Shortly, thereafter, he enlisted in the National Guard and served for 4 years. His family moved to Northfield in 1960. He worked in the building/ contracting trade and met his future wife, Mary Kay. He then landed a job at Continental Machines in 1963. Bob and Mary Kay were married on April 25th, 1964, and relocated to their home in Lonsdale two years later where they raised David and Jim.

Lillian Marie Thomas, age 90 of New Market, MN passed away peacefully on April 13, 2022. Lillian was born on May 13, 1931 in New Prague, MN.

Gladys M. Tupy, age 91, of New Prague, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at her home at Praha Village.  She was born on October 25, 1930 at home in Webster Township to William and Mary (Smisek) Novak.  Gladys attended Lonsdale Parochial School and graduated from New Prague High School.  She caught the eye of a dashing young man, Donald F.

According to the Belle Plaine Police Department on Wednesday, April 13, Belle Plaine Police Officers were called to the 100 block of West Main Street for a male threatening to commit suicide. Upon arrival of police, the male subject ran towards the area of the Belle Plaine schools creating a procedural lockdown for the school district. The Minnesota State Patrol, Scott County Sheriff’s Office along with officers from the Belle Plaine Police Department patrolled the exterior of all schools while searching for the subject.

Sister Kathleen Kajer (81) passed away on April 11, 2022 in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. 
A funeral Mass will be held on April 21, at 10:30 am (EST) 2022 at Our Lady of Calvary Church in Philadelphia. Interment will be at the Sisters of Blessed Sacrament cemetery in Pennsylvania.

Mildred “Millie” Vomacka, age 103, of Jordan and Shakopee, passed  away peacefully on April 6, 2022 at All Saints Senior Living in  Shakopee. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Jordan, MN, with Fr. Neil Bakker presiding. Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Jordan. 

Joseph P. Pottner, died peacefully in Minneapolis at the age of 71 on April 3, 2022. Joe is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Lonsdale, Ruth’s loving children Matt (Lisa) Hins of Glencoe, Stephanie (Louie Ballman) Stemmer of New Prague, daughter Barbara, grandsons Logan and Dean Stemmer and Hunter Hins, and sister Pat (Greg) Latsch of Milwaukee. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Josephine Pottner of Nevis, Minnesota.
