Allen L. Tikalsky, age 76, of New Prague, died peacefully with his family at his side on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at his home at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center and Assisted Living.  Allen was born on June 4, 1945 in New Prague to Henry and Lorraine E. (Hadac) Tikalsky.  He attended St. Wenceslaus School and graduated from New Prague High School.  He then entered the US Navy, where he served for 8 years, working on naval ships first in the Phillipines.  It was while he was home on leave that he met his bride, Lucille I.

Kurt M. Swaggert, age 33, died unexpectedly at his New Prague home on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021.
Born on April 15, 1988, in Minneapolis to Patrick J. and Lynn (Tisdel) Swaggert, Kurt moved with his family to New Prague for the start of kindergarten. Kurt went on to graduate from New Prague High School and then moved to Avondale, Arizona, where he earned an associate degree in automotive technology from Universal Technical Institute.

The New Prague Fire Department was a busy place the morning of Sunday, Oct. 3, as people came out for demonstrations, children’s activities and a pancake breakfast. Held from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. people could get tours of the station, children enjoyed being able to explore the fire trucks and vehicles from North Memorial Ambulance and the New Prague Police Department, trying on firefighter gear and getting a chance to operate a fire hose. Georgean Kohoutek, age 89, of New Prague, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at Traditions of Montgomery.  Georgean was born on January 26, 1932 at home to Alois J. and Lidwina (Steinhoff) Pauly.  She attended a small country school in Helena Township and New Prague High School.  When her brother was drafted into the US Army during WWII, Georgean stayed home to help on the farm and became very close to her father as a result.  She met and married the love of her life, Walter W. Kohoutek on June 29, 1949 at St.

John C. Sheehan, age 67, of Chaska, died peacefully with his family at his side on Monday, September 27, 2021 at Hennepin County Medical Center.  John was born on July 27, 1954, in Waseca, MN to Edward F. and Lucille M. (Kreuser) Sheehan.  He grew up in New Prague, attended St.

Patrick Skelley passed away on September 24, 2021 in Belle Plaine after battling heart disease.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Jessenland.  Fr. Michael Kaluza, will officiate.  Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine.  Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 8-10 a.m.  followed by a procession to Jessenland for the Mass.  Interment will be in the church cemetery and lunch will follow at the Belle Plaine Vet’s Club.

The Homecoming Court also includes Evan Anderson, Willam Andersen, Ethan Chromy, Nicholas Geis, Aidan King, Matthew Kudrle and Luke Shepard, Faith Boyer, Calista Brotemarkle, Aaliyah Hanson, Avery Hennen, Payton Morris, Jessica Sadusky and Lindsey Simon.

New Prague Area Schools held its induction ceremony for its Hall of Fame the evening of Thursday, Sept. 23. at the New Prague High School auditorium where 10 people and one group were inducted. Those inducted for Distinguished Service were the Duck Cup Memorial, the late Chuck Kajer and the late Arnie Ambroz, for Athletics were Brad Von Bank, Ron Schoenecker, Dan O’Brien and Tamara Jackson Haecherl, for Distinguished Alumni are Tim Neeser, Todd Morris, Dr. Tom Kajer and Keith Barta. The purpose is the same, but the event that celebrates survivors, remembers those who lost their battles, and raises money to fight cancer, will look a little different this year.
Sara Slavik, one of the organizers for the Le Sueur County Annual Relay for Life, said they have adjusted the relay so it will be more of a family event. It will be held Saturday, Sept. 25 instead of the middle of July when it was held on a Friday.

Dozinky, the Czech Harvest Festival of 2021 is entering the record books. This year was a good one for weather as there was plenty of sun and temperatures made for a nice weekend on Friday, Sept. 17, and Saturday, Sept. 18.
More often than not I did have fun, while keeping very busy taking photos and talking to people. I saw some people that I haven’t seen in some time and met new people. It always amazes me how there is a large crowd for the parade and sometimes the crowd stays around.

New Prague High School is celebrating Homecoming this week with lots of activities. Students have been dressing up by themes each day this week. The annual Powderpuff game was played on Sunday, Sept. 19. The Pep Fest, coronation of the Homecoming King and Queen, the football game and the dance are this Friday, Sept. 24.
Dress Up Days for this week have been Tie Dye Day on Monday, Sept. 20, Tacky Tourist/Tropical Day on Tuesday, Sept. 21, Decade Day on Wednesday, Sept. 22, Cowboy/Comfy Day on Thursday, Sept. 23, and Trojan Pride Day on Friday, Sept. 24.

Senior Jacob Malecha placed fifth in 18:01 in leading the New Prague boys cross country team to a fifth place finish in the 10- team Hutchinson Invitational Thursday, Sept. 16.

Lowell E. Tangen, age 68, of New Prague, died peacefully with his family at his side at his home on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.  Lowell was born on March 7, 1953 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Selmer E. and Dorothy M. (Erickson) Tangen.  He grew up on the family farm near Hawley, MN, graduating from Hawley High School.  He graduated from the agricultural college of Crookston Junior College in 1973 and then went on to attain his Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science, graduating with honors from the University of Minnesota in 1974.  Lowell married the love of his life, Marsha E.

The New Prague girls soccer team recorded a pair of shutouts in splitting two of four games last week.
The Trojans blanked Bloomington Jefferson, 1-0 in overtime, Tuesday, Sept. 14. They also recorded a 3-0 shutout of Mayer Lutheran Thursday, Sept. 16. Rochester Century shut out the Trojans, 6-0, Saturday, Sept. 18. Monday, Sept. 20 St. Louis Park edged New Prague, 1-0.
In the win over Jefferson, Evie Wegner took a corner kick that found Madi Josephson making a near post run and she was able to slip the ball past the Jefferson keeper.
