Despite the rain, the Car Cruise of classic cars happened Friday evening, Sept. 18, with people lining the route down New Prague’s Main Street.

Battling hard paid off for the New Prague Youth Traveling Team on Sunday, Jan. 12. The team took home the first place trophy for the K-3 tournament in Moundsview at the Iron Mustangs tournament.
Their first match was against Stillwater and was won by one point. New Prague battled for 40 points, while Stillwater ended with 39 points.

New Prague area residents can get a look at the work of 20 New Prague High School students with a free performance this Friday, Jan. 24, of the One Act Play “Silent Sky” by Lauren Gunderson. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. at the high school auditorium, 221 12th St. NE.
“The show is shaping up well. The kids are improving each and every day. The costumes are wonderful, and we’re really looking forward to performing this Friday,” said director Ben Thietje.
Virginia B. Schmitz, age 95, of New Prague, entered eternal life on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at Mala Strana Nursing Home in New Prague.
Virginia was born in Jordan, on April 24, 1924, the daughter of John and Mathilda (Haus) Mayerhofer. She married Alvin Schmitz on October 6, 1943, in Jordan.
The New Prague wrestling team won its 18th straight dual meet Thursday, Jan. 16, defeating Waconia 44-20.
The Trojans, ranked 4th in Class AAA, defeated the No. 20AAA ranked Wildcats by winning 10 of the 14 matches wrestled.
In a match-up of top 10 rate wrestlers, William Busch (4th-195AAA) edged Bram Fitzsimmonds (#6-195AAA) by a 3-2 decision.

Le Sueur County and the City of Kilkenny have reached an agreement pertaining to law enforcement services.
During the Jan. 21 Le Sueur County Board of Commissioners meeting, Sheriff Brett Mason presented a contract that has the county providing law enforcement to the City of Kilkenny.
City officials in Kilkenny have already endorsed the contract. The commissioners approved the contract unanimously Tuesday.
Sheriff Mason said the county had been patrolling Kilkenny without a contract for years.
Snoball Week will be celebrated at New Prague High School from Monday, Jan. 27, to Friday, Jan. 31. The annual week-long event includes dress up days, a Dodgeball Tournament, the coronation of Snoball King and Queen and the Snoball Dance.
The Dress Up Days for Snoball are Monday - Groutfit/ Comfy Day, Tuesday - Camo Day, Wednesday - College Day, Thursday - Hawaiian Day and Friday - Jersey Day.
Last weekend was a reminder that it’s still definitely winter and we have a little more than two months left of snow, ice, cold temperatures and wind. If we’re lucky we won’t have a snowstorm in April, but you never know.

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit #45 will meet Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the Park Ballroom in New Prague. A light lunch will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m. The dessert committee for January is Donna Dols, Ruth Dols and Shayelynn Christianson.

MANKATO, Minn. – (3:45 p.m.) With significant snow and strong winds forecast for Friday and Saturday, the Minnesota Department of Transportation advises motorists to plan for difficult driving conditions or make alternate plans.
Heavy snowfall combined with moderate winds can dramatically reduce visibility during the storm and continued wind gusts after the storm may prolong MnDOT snowplow drivers’ ability to recover the roads.
Secretary of State Steve Simon is reminding Minnesotans about the beginning of absentee voting for the March 3, 2020, Presidential Nomination Primary. The primary will help determine both the Democratic and Republican party candidates for the November general election.
“The presidential nomination primary opens up the selection process and allows more Minnesotans to participate,” said Simon. “Caucuses are limited to a few hours on one evening; this primary will give more people more ways to participate, and over a longer period of time.”
How to request an absentee ballot
On Tuesday, Jan, 14, Bevcomm, the Blue Earth based telecommunication company, announced it has reached a definitive agreement with Lonsdale Telephone Company to acquire ownership of that Lonsdale based business. Transfer of ownership is pending regulatory approval, which is expected in the first half of this year.
According to a press release from Bevcomm, “Existing employees of Lonsdale Telephone Company will become employees of Bevcomm, and will continue to manage the day-to-day office functions.”

Leonard Joseph Wondra, 95, of Montgomery, died on Monday, Jan. 13, 2020 at Traditions in Montgomery. Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 17 from 4 to 8:00 p.m. at the Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Father Tom Niehaus officiating. Interment will take place at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in spring. Full obit in next weeks paper.
