New Prague's Nick Novak won his first round match at the state Class AAA wrestling tournament Friday, march 1, but lost his second round match.
In the morning session, Novak, the No. 5 seed at 120 pounds, defeated Ben Stites of Minneapolis Southwest by fall in 3:28. In the afternoon session he lost to Nic Cantu of Albert Lea, the No. 4 seed, by a 3-0 score.
Novak will compete in the wrestlebacks later Friday evening. If he wins, he advances to the consolation round on Saturday.

The retired judge overseeing the Le Sueur County Historical Society (LCHS) lawsuit assigned tasks and specific timelines to move the case along.

Bonita Marie Tupy, age 54, of New Prague, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday, March 1, 2019 at St. Gertrude’s Health and Rehabilitation Center in Shakopee.  Bonnie was born on September 30, 1964 in Shakopee to Lloyd A. and Carol L. (Pawelk) White.  Her parents were killed in a car accident when Bonnie was almost 4 and she was raised by her grandparents, Ed & Lillian White.   She graduated from New Prague High School in1983 and married Arnie Dale Tupy on August 11, 1984 at St.

Wednesday, Feb. 20, began with heavy snow that lasted through most of the day. For New Prague city employees like Jeff Steinhoff he was already out working at 6 a.m. making sure residents had clear streets.
February 20 was a day of heavy snowfall as New Prague and the surrounding communities had between 8-12 inches of snow gather.
“This is nontypical,” said Steinhoff about the February storm. “We don’t have this much snow usually.”

The New Prague Trojan girls basketball team closed out the regular season with a win over Delano Friday, Feb. 22. The win, and a Waconia win over Holy Family the previous evening, gave the Trojans a share of the Wright County Conference East title with those two teams, as all three had 7-3 conference records.

New Prague Area Schools Superintendent Tim Dittberner updated members of the school board on the use of "flexible learning days" the district has taken due to weather. The update came during the board’s regular meeting Monday, Feb. 25.
"It’s nice to have these available to us," he said. "We’ve had them for four years and until this year we hadn’t had to use one. This year, we’ve used seven."

The New Prague adapted floor hockey team won two games last week, defeating Winona and St. Paul Humboldt.
The team was scheduled to host Stillwater Tuesday, Feb. 26, and Burnsville/Farmington/ Lakeville Wednesday, Feb. 27. New Prague plays at Minneapolis Edison Thursday, Feb. 28, and will play their regular season finale on Tuesday, March 5, at home against South Washington County.
New Prague, which has athletes from Tri-City United, Le Sueur-Henderson, Jordan and Belle Plaine, has a 4- 1 record going into this week’s games, with one week left in the regular season.

Snow and wind didn’t deter about 150 youngsters from showing up Sunday, Feb. 24, to the 20th Annual Wood Duck House building event at the Knights of Columbus Hall in New Prague.
Sponsored by the Scott-Le Sueur chapter of the Minnesota Waterfowl Association, youngsters were given the opportunity to build wood duck houses to take home and put out in wildlife areas to attract wood ducks for nesting.

Violet Anne Bachman, age 92, of New Prague, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on February 27, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital New Prague.  Vi was born January 21, 1927 near Princeton, Minnesota to Frank & Agnes (Fradette) Betzler.  She attended grade school at Swatara and high school in Hill City and Aitkin.  She met her future husband, Herschel F. Bachman on her 19th birthday at a dance in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.  They married on August 15, 1946 in Estherville, Iowa and began their life together in Minneapolis.

Last weekend’s blizzard endangered some, inconvenienced many and proved once again that Mother Nature is not to be fooled with.
We had plenty of warning that bad weather conditions were on the way. Events were being cancelled already on Friday and many people altered their weekend plans to avoid having to drive.

The New Prague Trojan boys hockey team knew going in that it would be a tall task in their Section 2AA quarterfinal game.
The opponent was Minnetonka, a team that spent much of the season ranked No. 1 in the state, and was still ranked No. 2 going into the post season. The Skippers were the No. 1 seed in the section and the Trojans No. 8.

Sandmann, Gene Lloyd, age 81 of Webster, MN, passed away at his home on February 25, 2019. Gene retired from the City of Burnsville after 28 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Gladys, and sister, Joyce McGowan.

The Czech Heritage Club is hosting a “Dumpling Make and Take” at 7 p.m. Tuesday March 12, at the New Prague Library.
Anyone ages 9 and up is welcome to attend. Hana Matousek, a native of the Czech Republic, will show how to make a fast and simple kind of dumpling that the participants will make and take home. Hana has been active in different food events, especially with the Czech and Slovak Sokol Minnesota, and has taught many cooking and bargain classes.

Curtain Call Theatre brings “The Odd Couple, Female Version” to the area for two weeks, beginning Friday.
The Neil Simon play has been a crowd-pleaser since it debuted on Broadway in 1965. Twenty years later, Simon wrote a female version which debuted on Broadway. In Curtain Call’s version, Olive (slob) is played by Heather Jenness, and Florence (neat freak) is played by Linda Gare.

Aelred A. (Butch) Wagner, age 80, of New Market, MN, died peacefully on Sunday, February 10, 2019, at the St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault, MN.  A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrate his life on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at 11:00 am at the Church of St. Nicholas in New Market, MN.  Visitation will begin at 9:30 am.

Harry Tuma, 75, of Montgomery, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 19 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Mass of Christian Burial following at 11 a.m. with Father Victor Valencia officiating. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Lonsdale.
Harry was born on June 16, 1943, in Lonsdale to Emil and Emma (Smisek) Tuma. Harry attended Immaculate Conception School in Lonsdale and attended New Prague High School.
