New Prague’s undefeated indoor softball team is aiming for a deep playoff run.
The Trojans are 4-0 with two games this week. Tuesday’s clash, April 29, with South Suburban was played after the newspaper’s press deadline. NP will complete the regular season today, Thursday, May 1, 4:30 p.m., at Park High School in Cottage Grove against South Washington County.
A pair of wins will advance New Prague into post-season play as a top seed in the southern half of the state. The state tournament is May 16-17 at Chanhassen High School.

With four players in the top five, New Prague’s boys’ golf team cruised to an easy win in its own invitational tournament.
The New Prague boys’ golf team took first with a team total of 303 at the New Prague Invitational played Friday, April 25, at Creeksbend Golf Course just outside NP. Heritage Christian Academy finished four shots back, followed by Shakopee (322), Bloomington Jefferson (337), Holy Family (338), Le Sueur-Henderson and Jordan (341 each) and Burnsville (350).

Amanda Will never dreamed of spending the amount of time in a doctor’s office and the hospital as she has the past few years. The journey her son, Colton, and family have been on has already seemed to have taken a lifetime.
Colton Will of New Prague was diagnosed with mixed phenotype lineage leukemia when he was 4. He is being treated at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis. Recently, he entered the maintenance phase of his threeyear treatment journey to becoming cancer free. He will have monthly visits to the clinic and receive chemo at home.

A Cedar Lake Township woman was killed in a crash at the intersection of Highway 13 and East 247th Street in the area of St. Patrick Monday, April 28, which was reported at 5:10 p.m.
The Minnesota State Patrol reported Fedora Isabelle Formuzal, 70, of Cedar Lake Township, was killed in the crash.
The Minnesota State Patrol crash report states a 2012 Ford Escape driven by Darren Wendell Iverson of Cedar Lake Township and a 2021 Ford Explorer driven by Jordin Isabelle Gummert of Cedar Lake Township were traveling southbound on Highway 13.

Rodney “Bud” Kager, age 82, of New Prague, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, April 24, 2025.  Bud was born on June 3, 1942, in Los Angeles, CA, to Clyde and Ione (Wolstad) Kager.  The family settled in Minnesota and Bud graduated from Bloomington High School.  He served in the US Navy and was honorably discharged from the U.S.

Magdalen Angela Lambrecht, daughter of John Leo and Emma Margaretha (Moes) Sieben was born on May 1, 1929, in Hampton, MN. She passed from this earthly life on April 23, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital, Shakopee, MN. Maddie will be laid to rest next to Harold on Friday, May 2, 2025, with 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. visitation at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (313 2nd Street East, Jordan, MN) followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m., and interment at Calvary Cemetery in Jordan. Father Neil Bakker will preside. Lunch to follow in church basement.

After just three games – all victories – New Prague’s indoor softball team has its sights set on a solid season with a possible berth in the post-season. The Trojans thumped Stillwater Area Thursday, April 17. The Trojans will be in Prior Lake (Twin Oaks Middle School) today, Thursday, April 24, 4:30 p.m., to face the Shakopee-ChanhassenChaska-Prior Lake squad.
Trojans 13, Stillwater Area 1 New Prague used an 18-hit attack to score early and often in the win over the Ponies.

With an experienced team poised for a solid season, New Prague’s boys’ lacrosse team is off to a fast, highly-offensive start.
With three big wins early, New Prague will be on the road in the coming week. The Trojans will be in Mahtomedi today, April 24, 7 p.m., to face the Zephyrs. NP will face Chaska, in Chaska, Wednesday, April 30, 6 p.m., before facing Rosemount in Trojan Stadium Friday, May 2, 6:30 p.m.
Monday, April 21, NP thumped Mankato, 14-2, at Trojan Stadium. Details of the game were unavailable when The New Prague Times went to press.

Mary Koepp, age 91, of Belle Plaine, died on April 23, 2025, at her independent living apartment at Kingsway Senior Living. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine and one hour prior to the funeral at church. Rev. Ted Vanderpan will officiate. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery.

It is with a heavy heart and great sorrow that John announces the death of his loving wife, Annette B. Oellrich, age 86, of New Prague, who died peacefully at home with her family at her side on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.  Annette was born on August 31, 1938, in Platteville, WI, to Ambrose and Adeline (Pickel) Brunton.  She graduated from Livingston High School and met a young man at a dance in Rockville, WI and he was smitten!  She married John H.

The Elko New Market City Council authorized a study by Bolton & Menk, the city’s engineering firm, to evaluate three sites and to recommend a final site for a proposed new water tower, which will help increase the city’s elevated water storage capacity. The work will also include an update to the city’s digital water system model.
City Administrator Tom Terry said this was part of a program to update the city’s infrastructure, which includes work to update the city’s power and water plants.

R.T. Rybak was club’s featured speaker
New Prague’s Rotary Club marked its 80th anniversary Thursday, April 17, with a dinner and guests and featured speaker R.T. Rybak, former mayor of Minneapolis and whose family has roots in New Prague.
More than 30 people attended the event at the New Prague Golf Club. Among those attending were current and former members of the local Rotary Club, plus guests Rotary District Governor Ed Boeve and Mankato Rotary President Duane Olenius, whose club sponsored and mentored the New Prague club 80 years ago.

Rosemary (Koenig) Sevcik, at the age of 94, of Lonsdale, passed away peacefully at The Villages of Lonsdale on Monday, April 21, 2025.
Rosemary was born at home on May 7, 1930, in New Prague, MN. She attended New Prague schools. Rosemary briefly worked in the banking industry as a teller before marrying the love of her life, Richard, which they met at one of the many dances that Richard played at, both had a great love for polka music. They married on June 21, 1951.  

Wallace W. Will, age 93, of New Prague (formerly of Prior Lake), passed away peacefully, with his loving family by his side on April 18, 2025.
A Christian Funeral will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with a memorial gathering from 9:00 - 10:45 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Fish Lake (20200 Fairlawn Ave.) in Prior Lake. Rev. Dr. Brent Parrish will preside, and Wally's grandchildren will act as urn bearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be distributed by Wally's family in his honor.

Laura Schoenbauer, of St. Paul, daughter of  Shirley and the late Gilbert Schoenbauer, died in Minneapolis, Friday morning, the 18 of April after a 20 year battle with RA. Born in New Prague, she was in the last first grade at school in St. Benedict, then graduated from New Prague schools, also from Mankato State College and U of M Law School. 

Lorraine C. Schoenbauer, age 100, of New Prague, died peacefully with her family at her side and entered Heaven on the same day as Pope Francis, on Monday, April 21, 2025, at her home at Praha Village.  Lorraine was born on March 11, 1925, in Jordan, MN, to Gerhard and Elizabeth (Beckman) Hartmann.  She graduated from Jordan High School and she met a young man at a dance in Jordan.  It took Eugene three times asking her for the honor of a dance before she agreed.  There must have been some magic happening because she married Eugene N.
