The Le Sueur County Board approved the medical director agreement with Dr. Michael Wilcox during the Tuesday, March 5 meeting in Le Center.
Wilcox has been involved in providing emergency medical services to the county for many years. This agreement, which includes a fee of $500, will allow Wilcox to act as medical director for the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Training Center and provide consultation.

* A renewal of a consumption and display permit was approved for the Caribou Gun Club in Le Sueur.

The New Prague Trojan Adapted Floor Hockey Team will host the Wayzata/Minnetonka Lakers at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, in a state play-in game. Game time is 4:30 p.m. in the CEC gym.
New Prague is the No. 1 seed in the south division. A win puts them in the state tournament, which will be played Friday and Saturday, March 15 and 16, at Bloomington Jefferson High School.
The squad includes players from New Prague, Tri-City United, Le Sueur-Henderson, Belle Plaine and Jordan schools.

The Elko New Market City Council at its Thursday, Feb. 28, business meeting unanimously authorized City Administrator Tom Terry to make a conditional offer to Brady Juell to be the city’s new Police Chief and Emergency Management Director. Juell, currently a sergeant with the Chaska Police Department, has accepted and will start in March.

Hunter Nielsen scored 24 points and New Prague made 24 of 27 free throws in a 74-65 win over Rochester Mayo in the first round of the Section 1AAAA boys basketball tournament Wednesday, March 6, in New Prague.
Three other Trojans scored in double figures - Parker Johnson with 19, Tyler Kemp with 16 and Nathan Brusseau with 11.
The game was tied at halftime, and Mayo hit three straight three-pointers early in the second half to open up a nine-point lead, but the Trojans whittled away and regained the lead for good with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game.

New Prague Area Schools held the annual District Elementary Science Fair Saturday, March 2, at New Prague Middle School.

The New Prague Trojan offense stalled late in their Section 1AAAA girls basketball quarterfinals at Lakeville South Wednesday, Feb. 27. That led to a first-round exit by the Trojans, who lost 57- 47 to the Cougars.
New Prague had a slow start, with a couple turnovers and missed shots. That led the Cougars to an early 7-0 lead.
But the Trojans fought back and tied the game on a layup by Kate Seymour. Amanda Giesen gave the Trojans their first lead at 11- 10 with 10 minutes remaining. The lead changed hands several times and the teams went into the locker room tied 26-26.

As hard as it may be to believe, but one of the first signs of spring is headed our way this weekend.
Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 10. That is the day most Americans will move their clocks ahead one hour in an attempt to capture an extra hour of daylight in the evening.

Neptune Aquatics, the USA Swimming club based in New Prague, will bring five swimmers to the Minnesota Short Course State Meet Thursday through Sunday, March 7-10, at the University of Minnesota. This year’s state team consists of Taylor Bassett, Alexis Day, Carolyn DeLuca, Ella Schmiesing and Cooper Krance.
“We’re very excited about our Neptune swimmers’ success in qualifying for the Minnesota Short Course State Meet,” says Chuck Webb, Neptune Aquatics head coach. “Their success is a testament to their hard work and dedication to the sport of swimming.”

The New Prague Trojan boys basketball team closed out its regular season with a pair of wins last week, over Orono and Hutchinson. That gave the team a perfect 10-0 record in the Wright County Conference East division. That gives the Trojans the conference championship for the fourth time in the five years they have been in the conference.

Heikes, David H., age 82 of Elko-New Market, passed away March 5, 2019. Preceded in death by parents, Herman and Carol, and brothers-in-law, Harvey Clark, Tom Petherbridge, Leigh Betts, Arnold Knutson, Bob Umbehocker. David is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Ellie (James) White, Connie (Jason) Risser, Bruce (Laurie), Dan, and Becky (Gordy) Hallstrom; 19 grandchildren; 4 great- grandchildren; siblings, Chuck, Larry, Margaret Umbehocker, Helen Clark, Charlotte Betts, Amy Billman and Shirley Knutson; also by other loving family and friends.

Two people from Le Sueur were killed when their snowmobile hit a power pole in Blakeley Township in rural Scott County Sunday, March 3.
According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a call at approximately 4:27 p.m. Sunday about a snowmobile crash with injuries at the intersection of 280th Street W (State Highway 19) and Lehnert Lane, which is just west of the interchange with Highway 169.

Myron J. Eischens of New Prague, died peacefully at the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine on Saturday, March 2, 2019.  He was born March 11, 1928 at the original New Prague Hospital.  He attended the elementary schools in St. Benedict and St. Wenceslaus and graduated from New Prague High School in 1946.  Myron worked for Continental Machine Inc. as a pattern maker for about 25 years prior to farming. Myron waited many years before he met the love of his life and  married Anna Albina Svoboda on May 29, 1974 at St.

Arlene R. Pexa, age 78, of Chaska, formerly of New Prague, died suddenly on Saturday, March  2, 2019 at her home in Chaska.  Arlene was born on February 18, 1941 to Sylvester and Celestine “Sally” (Barten) Deutsch in New Prague.  She graduated from New Prague High School and attended Minneapolis Cosmetology School.  Arlene married Norman F. Pexa on May 2, 1964 at St.

The New Prague Trojan boys basketball team, which finished the regular season 16-10 and 10-0 in the Wright County Conference East Division, received the No. 3 seed in the Section 1AAAA tournament.
The tournament begins Wednesday, March 6, with the top four seeds hosting games. New Prague will face Rochester Mayo, the No. 6 seed. The Spartans are 15-11 and placed fourth in the Big 9 Conference with a 14-8 record.

New Prague's Nick Novak won his first round match at the state Class AAA wrestling tournament Friday, march 1, but lost his second round match.
In the morning session, Novak, the No. 5 seed at 120 pounds, defeated Ben Stites of Minneapolis Southwest by fall in 3:28. In the afternoon session he lost to Nic Cantu of Albert Lea, the No. 4 seed, by a 3-0 score.
Novak will compete in the wrestlebacks later Friday evening. If he wins, he advances to the consolation round on Saturday.
