The City of Lonsdale’s current city hall, located at 415 Central Street SW, has long been outdated for the city’s needs. In 2018, the city looked into expanding that location, according to Lonsdale City Administrator Joel Erickson.
Erickson said that the current location was just not feasible with the building’s layout and small and awkward lot. Remodeling the current building didn’t feasibly provide for enough parking and space, and the city council, at that time, voted it down.

Most Holy Redeemer Church, originally known as Holy Redeemer in honor of the Holy Redeemer, can trace its roots back to the early settlers of the region.
By the year 1866, numerous Czech Catholic settlers had arrived in the region of Montgomery and Lexington Townships and had erected a Catholic mission church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel, known as Budejovice or Budweis. It served people until July 1877.

Donald P. Solberg, Wanamingo, MN. Donald passed away on September 8, 2024. Donald was born April 01, 1930, to Peter O. and Minnie (Satren) Solberg. He grew up in Wanamingo, MN, and graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1948, served 4 years in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in July 1952.
During his 42 years in Sales/Marketing in artificial the breeding of livestock industry his work afforded him the opportunity to travel to 49 states, 28 international countries and 6 continents. He retired from CRI-Genex in 1995.

New Prague High School’s pep fest Friday, Sept. 27, had the coronation of homecoming royalty, crowned king was senior Evan Weichert and queen was Audrey Olson. The pep fest had music, dancing and cheers. The high school had its annual parade down Main Street. David George Edel passed on from this earth in the early morning of August 26, 2024, at his home in Naples, Florida. A celebration of life gathering will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday October 12, at Richter Woods—35674 173rd Ave, Montgomery, MN, 56069.

Kathy Beatty passed away at her home in Montgomery, MN, on September 23, 2024, at the age of 86. She was born in McGrath, MN, on July 19, 1938, to Simon & Julia (Bolan) Schwarzbauer. Kathy moved to St. Paul, MN, shortly after her graduation from McGrath High School.
In February 1957, she married Leonard Beatty at Sacred Heart Church in Wahkon, MN & together they raised six children.

Laura Ann (née Simon) Jirik, age 97, of Lonsdale, passed away on  September 22, 2024, at The Villages of Lonsdale where she resided for the last 15 years.
Laura was born on January 29, 1927, to Bohumil and Ludmilla (Kalina) Simon in New Prague, MN. She grew up on a farm near Veseli, MN, attended grade school in Veseli and graduated from New Prague High School.

Stanley Francis Handsuch, 94, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife at their home in Hill City, MN.

On Sunday, September 15, 2024, Bonita Marie Whiting, 65, of Havelock, NC, was called to Heaven to meet her Savior Jesus Christ after a brief but brave battle with cancer.

Claudia (Goche) Weiers, 70, of Alexandria, passed away on September 17, 2024. Services will be held Monday, September 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria with inurnment at St. Mary's Cemetery. www.andersonfuneral.net

Minnesota 4-H youth exhibited 2,612 animals and 1900 general exhibits at the Minnesota State Fair this year.
A total of 35 youth from Le Sueur County participated in the livestock exhibiting and 21 youth in the general 4-H exhibits at the Minnesota State Fair.

The New Prague Police Department informed the New Prague High School administration Wednesday morning, Sept. 18, of a social media threat made against the high school and several other schools. A suspect is currently in custody.

Francis Emil “Fritz” Novak, age 95, of New Prague, died peacefully at his home with his family at his side on Monday, September 16, 2024.  Fritz was born on July 29, 1929, to Ladislav and Anna (Pavek) Novak on the family farm in Veseli, Minnesota.  He went to public school in Veseli for 2 years and then went to Most Holy Trinity Catholic School through eighth grade.  He worked for many local farmers doing odd jobs and went to high school for his freshman year only.  He decided to join the Air Force, enlisted on January 11, 1949, had 13 weeks of basic training at Sheppard Air Force Base in W
