In-coming fifth-grade students were caught in the middle of a dispute between the school board and the teaching staff at Tri-City United.
In recent months, the school board learned that the yearly field trip to Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center would be canceled if the teachers involved in organizing and attending the three-day educational experience were not compensated for their time and effort.

Midway through the DRS Amateur Baseball League season, there is a new leader.
St. Patrick, winner of five straight games, has risen to the top of the standings with a 6-2 record. Webster, 4-1 in their last five games, moves into second place with a 6-4 record. Montgomery, the leader for much of the early season, has dropped to third place with a 7-5 record.

City officials are hoping the multiple explosions of TNT in one of its wells last week will fix a water flow problem before the rehabilitation begins on the city’s water tower in mid-July.
On Wednesday, June 8, Dave Traut, of Traut Companies which specializes in wells, drilling, and water treatment, was at Well No. 5 near the city’s water treatment facility at 16638 – 340th Street. Traut was hired by the City on the recommendation of the Public Works Advisory Board.

Angela Kadrlik, age 42 of Montgomery passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, June 13, 2022.

John Joseph “Jack” Skluzacek, age 76, passed away on June 5, 2022 at his farm home near Lonsdale, MN.
John was born to John T. and Celia (Malecha) Skluzacek on January 21,1946 at the Northfield Hospital. John was the youngest of eight children and was loved by his siblings, Jeanette, Norbert, Loretta, Bernadine, Adrian, Valeria, and Sr. Marilyn OP.

Larry Yazzie of the Meskwaki Nation brought his colorful regalia, resounding drumming, and fancy footwork to the Montgomery Public Library to kick off the summer library program. More than 45 people watched Yazzie of the Native Pride Dancers bring his excitement and artistry to the library.

After 45 years teaching Math, Sue Westegaard is using her love of precision to create intricate quilts.
Westegaard, who taught Montgomery-Lonsdale students from 1971 until 1996 and went on to finish her career in Hopkins, is now retired. She lives in Shakopee and enjoys hunting for unique fabrics and piecing them together to create quilts, using her keen mathematician’s eye.
“There’s satisfaction in getting things to work out,” she stated. “In math, you get an answer. With quilting, you get a beautiful, complete design.”

Two juniors from Tri-City United High School have been named to the Minnesota River Conference’s 2022 All Conference Baseball Team.
Chris Johnson, was one of the team’s pitcher for the season. He also played in field. Johnson hit .444 with an onbase of .487 in MRC play for the Titans.
On the mound, Johnson was 3-2 with an ERA of 2.91. He struck out 15 in 24 innings pitched.
“He was a very focused player and gave 100 percent at all times,” said Coach Bruce Davis.

In fairness to multiple parties interested in purchasing a parcel of land from the city of Lonsdale, the council has voted to put the parcel up for public bid instead of accepting any purchase agreement at this time.
Over the last month, the council was presented with ideas by two parties interested in purchasing the land located at Outlot A of the Willow Creek Commons 2nd Addition, near Dollar General.

For the most part, May and June are big months for a lot of people.
Mother’s Day and Memorial Day are in May.

St. Patrick and Webster are climbing the DRS amateur baseball standings after a week with no losses.
St. Patrick has won three straight games and Webster is on a five game winning streak after losing their first three in league play.
Montgomery leads the league with a 7-3 record, St. Patrick (4-2), Webster (5- 3), St. Benedict (4-4), New Prague (4-4), and Union Hill, (3-3) are close behind.

Joseph G. Velishek, 81, of Faribault, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2022, at the Owatonna Hospital following a brief illness.
Joseph George was born on March 27, 1941, in Kilkenny, MN, to Joseph and Theresa (Hauer) Velishek. He attended school in Montgomery.
Joe was married to Theresa LaCanne on September 29, 1962. They farmed on the Velishek farm for 20 years, owned T.J.’s Furniture in Le Center for 13 years, and the Bargain Barn in Montgomery. Joe also worked at LaCanne’s Marine for 10 years.

Montgomery veterans give Salute to Deceased Veterans at the conclusion of the Memorial Day Program at the American Legion Post on Monday.
More than 700 names were read in the Roll Call of Deceased Veterans" by Ed Keogh, V.F. W. National Deputy Chief of Staff, Second District V.F.W. Commander and Commander V.F.W. Post 5340, and Corey Kotek, Commander American Legion Post 79 & Quartermaster V.F.W. Post 5340.

Command Chief Warrant Officer Brent Jensen of the Minnesota Army National Guard will be the main speaker on Memorial Day in the New Prague area on Monday, May 30. He will deliver his speech during ceremonies at the new Veterans Memorial along Main Street. It will be among several observations around the area on Memorial Day.

The Memorial Day 2022 recognition for fallen veterans will be held Monday, May 30 with a Mass at Most Holy Redeemer Church beginning at 8:15 a.m.
It will be followed by a parade beginning at 9 a.m. from the church parking lot to First Street, south to Elm Ave., and west to the Legion.
The program at the American Legion Post #79 begins at 9:30 a.m.
It is sponsored by the Montgomery American Legion Post 79, Montgomery Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5340, and the Montgomery Area Honor Guard.

Tri-City United High School held its commencement ceremonies on Friday night, where 120 Titans became alumni. The ceremony included songs by the band, choir, and the traditional tossing of the graduation caps.
Speeches were also given by three TCU graduates - Jamie Nelson, Lauren Houn, and Gabrielle Fisher who thanked parents, and teachers, reminisced about their high school years and spoke about the future.
