Arnold J. Smisek, age 93, of New Prague, died peacefully with his family at his side at his home on Friday, October 7, 2022.  Arnold was born on September 25, 1929 in Forest Township, Rice County, MN to Edward J. and Julia (Trnka) Smisek.  He graduated from New Prague High School, attended Dunwoody Institute, and then entered the US Navy, where he served as an electrician aboard the USS Currier in the Korean War.  He married Mary M. Maus, the woman who would become his treasured best friend for the rest of his life on June 9, 1956 at Sts.

The Tri City United volleyball team finished up a busy week by tying for third place in the eight-team Titan Invitational held Saturday in Montgomery.
The Titans played five total matches during the week. They defeated by Sibley East in five sets Tuesday, Sept. 27 by scores of 25-17, 25-23, 25-21, 25-15, and 15-8. Thursday, Sept. 29 the Titans swept Le Sueur Henderson in their annual “Pink Out” where the packed crowd was there is support of senior middle blocker Kaia Krocak’s family.

TCU senior Dante Juberian placed third in the New Prague Cross Country Invitational which was held Tuesday, Sept. 27.
Juberian completed the 5,000-meter course in 17:20, which was close behind runner-up Kaleb Sharp of Jordan (17:03) and champion Andrew Macheel of Buffalo (16:34).
The TCU boys placed eighth in the nine-team invitational with 172 points. Buffalo was the boys team champion with 59 points. They were followed by New Prague (65), Jordan (87), Waconia (87), Red Wing (142), Sibley East (163), Norwood-Young America (171), TCU, and Le Sueur-Henderson (248).

We’re rookies.
It’s obvious that my husband, John, and I need to step-up our game now that both of our daughters, Anna and Ellen, are active in school sports.
Our 8th grader plays tennis.
Our 5th grader plays volleyball.
Two kids. Two sports.
It shouldn’t be that difficult for two parents to follow, right?
Well—for the first time ever—our girls’ schedules collided last week with both kids having a match/game on the same day, at the same time in different cities.

Six-year-old Artemis Anderson and sister, four-year-old Athena, are school girls by day, but on Friday night, they were ninjas.
The daughters of Tiffany Anderson were two of the several hundred people to attend the Family Fun Night community event put on by TCU - Montgomery Parent and Teacher Organization ( PTO), Friday, Sept. 30.
Anderson volunteered at the event last year and returned with her girls this year because she loves to see them have fun, burn off some energy, and interact with their friends outside of the classroom.

New stop-arm cameras and interior cameras have been installed on all 27 of the big yellow school buses that transport Tri-City United students.

A vehicle crashed into the Casey’s General Store building in Montgomery around 8 a.m., Wednesday morning, October 5.  
According to the incident report, the Montgomery Police were alerted to the incident at 8:08 a.m. and an officer was dispatched to the scene.

Tri-City United High School crowned its Homecoming King and Queen during a ceremony on Monday night, Oct. 3.
The new king and queen are Henry Schendel and Rhia Krautkremer.
Queen Rhia is the daughter of Matthew and Denise Krautkremer.
King Henry is the son of Jim and Amy Schendel.
Last year’s Homecoming King and Queen, Brendan O’Keefe and Madison Dooley, had the honor of crowning the new royals.

Eileen Rita Krueger, age 85, of Waconia passed away, peacefully Wednesday, September, 28th 2022, at her home with her family by her side.
Mass of Christian Burial to be held Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Boniface Catholic Church (4025 Main Street) in St. Bonifacius with Father Peter Hughes as Celebrant of the Mass.   Visitation held Monday, October 3 from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. and one hour prior to the Mass on Tuesday, ALL AT THE CHURCH.  Interment in the church cemetery.

The whir of the hydraulic saw and the smell of sawdust in the afternoon makes Cole Van Horn smile.
The retiree lives and works at his own pace, doing what he enjoys—and what he enjoys doing is sawing trees into beautiful, useful pieces of lumber.
Van Horn opened Montgomery Sawmill, located just south of the City of Montgomery on Highway 21, a couple of years ago. The mill specializes in custom log sawing, cutting logs up to 3’ in diameter and 20 1/2' long.

Tri-City United Schools are getting ready to “Rock Out” for Homecoming Week 2022, which runs October 3 - 7.
Members of the all-senior Homecoming Court were announced Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 20, in preparation for the event.
Homecoming Queen candidates are: Anna Barnett, daughter of Patrick and Amy Barnett, Rhia Krautkremer, daughter of Matthew and Denise Krautkremer, Makayla Erickson, daughter of Joel and Nicole Erickson, Payton Singelton, daughter of Jeff and Darcy Singelton, and Emma Kaplan, daughter of Nicholas and Tricia Kaplan.

He’s performed over 250 weddings, dozens of baptisms, and numerous funerals. He has also ministered to prisoners and prayed over victims at accident scenes.
The good and the bad come with the job.
But, Deacon Dan Wesley has the Holy Spirit on his side.
75-year-old Wesley of Elysian has served the area as a deacon for four decades.
