The Waterville Indians and Morristown Morries amateur baseball teams will begin their quests to make a repeat appearance in the Class C State Tournament this weekend. After finishing up an abbreviated 13-60 League schedule, the two teams will open Region 6C Playoff action Sunday, August 2. Waterville, the No. 3 seed from the 13-60 League, will host Arlington, the No. 7 seed from the River Valley League. Game time in Waterville will be 2 p.m. Morristown, the No. 7 seed, will play at No. 2 seed Minnesota Lake at 6 p.m. Sunday. Minn. Lake edged the Morries, 1-0, last weekend.

No one was injured in an early morning fire in Montgomery that damaged two buildings on Wednesday, July 29.
The Montgomery Fire Department was called to a fire at 104 First Street at 3:45 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they observed flames engulfing the second floor of a vacant building.
City Administrator Brian Heck said the fire was under control in about 5½ hours. Montgomery firefighters continue to remain on the scene.

Due to the heavy rains on July 25th and 26th, the following lakes have now reached water levels that have ascended past the threshold concerning a "No Wake". The three lakes listed below have a "No Wake" restriction effective immediately:

Elizabeth "Betty" Claire Molva was born on August 13, 1941,
in Faribault, Minnesota. She was the daughter of John and Cyrilla

Darlene Alice Elizabeth Wendelschafer, age 88 of Cannon Falls and formerly of Waterville, passed away on Thursday morning, May 28, 2020 at Norris Square Care Center in Cottage Grove, where she has been residing since February.
Darlene was born on July 25, 1931 in Washington Township in Le Sueur County, the daughter of Arthur W. and Alice E. (Hager) Wendelschafer. She graduated from Waterville High School in 1949 and went on to Le Center Teachers Training in 1950. She graduated from Mankato State University with degrees in Elementary Education, Social Studies, and Science.

The Le Sueur County Board recently approved a pair of independent contractors to a number of projects.
But the decision to approve these individuals came with questions about their rate of pay, which will come from the CARES Act dollars which was recently approved by the federal government.
Barbara Droher Kline was approved to work with townships, cities, and Le Sueur County on COVID related planning. Her rate of pay is $75/hour.

The Baker family of Cleveland has been named Le Sueur County's "2020 Farm Family of the Year" by the University of Minnesota.

With the announcement of how the 2020-21 school year will be handled in less than two weeks, the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) released survey results of how families feel about sending their kids back to school.
The MDE conducted an informal survey of Minnesota families between June 15 and July 6.
The survey included questions about how they felt about distance learning and their thoughts on the 2020-21 school year.
More than $130,000 surveys were completed and they were offered in English, Hmong, Spanish, and Somali.

Waterville Indians fans were treated to gorgeous weather and a fantastic baseball game Sunday, July 12.
Waterville scored two runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat Blue Earth, 10-9 in 13-60 League action.
The Indians, 2-1 overall, scored single runs in the eighth and ninth innings to tie the game at 8-all after the Pirates exploded for five seventh inning runs to take an 8-6 lead.
In the eighth inning, Nolan Grose led off with a line drive home run to right field.

Gregg Alan "Bubba" Bauer, age 56, of Faribault passed away unexpectedly at his home on July 10, 2020.
Gregg was born in Faribault on the windy morning of January 25, 1964, to Dennis and Karen (Conklin) Bauer. He married the love of his life, Catherine Mensing, on June 23, 1984.
He graduated from Faribault High School in 1982 and continued his education at Faribault Vocational School where he graduated in 1984 in Small Engine Mechanics. He worked at Ahlman’s Marine before starting his dream of owning his own business, Quality Marine.

LeRoy “Pete” Wolff, was born on November 22, 1932 in rural Madison Lake to Clarence and Kathleen (Smith) Wolff. He attended school in Janesville and graduated in 1952 and then enlisted in the service following high school and was honorably discharged two years later. Pete married the love of his life, Mary Jean Phillips, on September 3, 1955 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Clair, MN and they were blessed with six children.

Bernard “Benny” Hinderscheid Jr., age 67, of Faribault, MN, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2020 at his home.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home, 1725 Lyndale Ave. N., Faribault, with Bernadette Tatge, pastoral minister of Divine Mercy Catholic Church, officiating. For those unable to attend, you can view the service through a link on Benny’s obituary page.
Memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10 – 11 a.m. the funeral home.

Sheriff Brett Mason led members of Le Sueur County Historical Society (LCHS) Board on a tour of the county’s now-vacant, 108-yearold jail and sheriff’s residence and the recently vacated 1978 jail on Tuesday morning, June 23.
According to County Administrator Darrell Pettis, the county is looking for ways to preserve and use the iconic brick building, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.

Highway 93 between Highway 169 and Henderson just closed due to flooding from the Rush River and as a result motorists using the Highway 111/22 Nicollet to Gaylord east detour will be rerouted within 24 hours.
For the second time this construction season, official route for traffic using the east detour changes to  included Highway 169 at St. Peter, Sibley County Roads 8 and 17, and Highway 19 until further notice.  The west detour between Nicollet and north of Nicollet CR 1 remains Highway 14, Highway 15 and Highway 19.

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has reported a cluster of positive COVID-19 cases in South Central Minnesota among young adults in their 20s who reported visiting bars and restaurants June 12 and 13, the first weekend they reopened.
