Mary A. Gregory, age 88 of Belle Plaine, died on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at The Belle Plaine Lutheran Home.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 2, at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine, with Fr. Brian Lynch officiating.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. on Monday at Our Lady of the Prairie Church in Belle Plaine.  Interment will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Belle Plaine followed by a luncheon at church.

The New Prague Trojan boys soccer team got its season started last week with a pair of Big 9 opponents, and while the Trojan defense was strong, their offense could not find the net as they lost 2- 0 to Mankato West and 1-0 to Faribault.
New Prague’s offense busted loose for five goals in a 5-0 win over Jordan Monday, Aug. 26. Details on that game will be published next week.

On Monday, Sept. 2, we celebrate Labor Day.
Typically considered the end of the summer recreation season, most people don’t put much thought into the holiday and its history and meaning.
Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers. It was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894.

The New Prague Trojan volleyball team opened its season last week with two tough opponents over two days, and came away with a pair of sweeps.
The Trojans (ranked No. 9, in Class AAA) defeated Mayer Lutheran (No. 3, Class A) and Belle Plaine (No. 4, Class AA) to get its season off to a good start. On Tuesday, they were scheduled to face Northfield, a state tournament team last season.
New Prague hosts two more traditionally strong opponents in St. Michael-Albertville on Thursday, Aug. 29, and Shakopee Tuesday, Sept. 3.

I was at a recent author visit at the library, Peg Meier, who said, “Everybody has a story.” That is appropriate in that August marks my 20th anniversary of working at The New Prague Times and in that time I have covered many people’s stories. The vast number of stories have covered a wide range of areas, from their hobbies to beginning new jobs or retiring to how they are helping others to their grievances with others to how their family is dealing with disease or small miracles or tragedies.

The New Market Muskies advanced to the third round of the Minnesota Class CBaseball Tournament with a 1-0 win over Luverne

Prime weather, great field activities, and a strong feature were just a few of the highlights that helped to make the 46th annual Pioneer Power Show a success, according to Bill Thelemann.
Thelemann, the president of the Le Sueur Pioneer Power Show, said that this year’s attendance on Saturday was close to record breaking for single day attendance.
“The crowd was unbelievable,” he said. “It makes me feel good to see that. I’m very thankful for the people that came to see our show.”

Franklin (Frank) George Breen, 81, of Montgomery, died on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019, at Augustana Lakeside Community Home in Dassel. Visitation was held on Friday, August 23, 10 a.m. to 12 noon with funeral service following at 12 noon, all at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery. Interment will be at a later date.
Frank was born on May 2, 1938, in Armour, SD to George W. and Ella J. (Herron) Breen. He graduated from Armour High School and also Southern State College in Springfield, SD. Frank was united in marriage to Jackie Lineback on August 19, 1961, in SD.

Ilo V. Hinze, age 95 of Prior Lake, formerly of New Prague and New Ulm, passed away on August 4, 2019.

Margaret Jane Koenig-Peterson, age 63, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Monday, August 26, 2019 at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina.  Margaret was born on May 6, 1956 and was adopted lovingly by Joseph J. and Marcella J.

William T. Dietz, age 71, of Faribault, MN, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis following an extended illness, surrounded by his family.
Memorial visitation to celebrate Bill and share stories will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home, 1725 Lyndale Ave N., Faribault, Minnesota. A short blessing will be at 2:00 p.m., followed by a social until approximately 5 p.m.

One run was enough for the New Market Muskies as they defeated the Luverne Redbirds 1-0 in a second round game at the State Class C tournament in Maple Lake Sunday, Aug. 25.
Kyle Bergstrom got a leadoff single in the bottom of the eighth and Nick Rost sacrificed pinch runner Justin Firpo to second. Brett Herber connected with a base hit that scored Firpo just ahead of the throw to give the Muskies a 1-0 lead.
Tony Vocca pitched seven shutout innings for New Market. Matt Lane,draftee from Faribault, pitched the final two innings and got the win.

The Prior Lake Mudcats were the only one of three Dakota-Rice-Scott League teams to win their first-round game at the Minnesota Class C Amateur Baseball Tournament over opening weekend.
The Mudcats claimed a 4-1 win over Foley to advance to the tournament’s second round.
Meanwhile, St. Patrick’s bats were silenced in a 4-0 loss to Cold Spring and St. Benedict lost a heart-breaker on a walk-off home run in a 3-2 loss to Waterville.

Catherine Herrmann (Rathmanner) left this world peacefully on August 22, 2019, at the age of 80, surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 26, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery, and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Father Tom officiating. Private family interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery.
