Violet Chromy of New Prague has been named the 2022 Le Sueur County Outstanding Senior Citizen.
She will be honored at the Le Sueur County Fair in Le Center on Sunday, August 21 at 1 p.m. in the Pavillion.
Chromy has been a homemaker her entire life. The 85-year-old is a mother of nine children, grandmother of 26, and great-grandmother of 34. Taking care of her children is not the only activity Chromy has been involved with according to James Simon, who nominated her for the award.

New Prague’s summer concert series Music at the Broz closed out with lovely weather, toe tapping music and likely its largest crowd as an estimated 400 people came out to listen to the Eddie Shimota Band the evening of Thursday, Aug. 11.

In the last few months I’ve had a few people say to me that I’ve been at The New Prague Times forever. While it hasn’t been that long, this Friday, Aug. 19, I do mark 23 years at the newspaper. I arrived in 1999, just before Dozinky, the community’s Czech harvest festival. I was amazed at how many people attended. Then, like now, Main Street became packed with people on Friday for Cruise Night and on Saturday for the music and the Parade of Farm Pride. For the headline about the festival in the paper that year I asked if there was a Czech word we could use that was the equal to WOW!

It was a night of musical appreciation for people who enjoy music and those who enjoy performing it at the Thursday, Aug. 4, Music at the Broz. The Echoes Big Band provided an evening of musical memories as they performed big band pieces from the 1930s and 1940s. The group of musicians played tunes from Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, and Tommy Dorsey, plus standards from the 1950s.

The New Prague School Board is drawing closer to finalizing a proposed voter levy request. At the school board’s Monday, Aug. 8, work session the consensus of the board was to have the levy in two questions and for it to be over a six year period.
At past meetings the school board has been discussing an operating levy referendum with it possibly to be part of the general election this November.

Montgomery and St. Patrick have punched their tickets to the Class C State Amateur Baseball Tournament after winning their first two games in the Region 3C Playoffs last weekend.
Montgomery knocked off Webster, 4-1, Friday, Aug. 5 and edged Union Hill, 4-3, Sunday, Aug. 7 to advance to the Region 3C Championship.
The Mallards will face St. Patrick, a 6-0 opening round winner over Veseli Friday and a 5-0 shutout of Faribault Monday, Aug. 8. Montgomery and St. Patrick will play Sunday, Aug. 14 at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick.

Randy Siskoff of Stockton, CA passed away on Thursday, June 30th 2022 at the age of 77. Randy was born on October 6th 1944 in New Prague, MN to Gustave and Madeline Siskoff. He was the oldest of five sons.
In Randy's childhood and teenage years he worked in the family owned business which was the New Prague Chicken Hatchery. After graduating High School he served in the US Navy on the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier. In the Navy he learned his lifetime trade of being a Steel Worker and worked as a Foreman for Stockton Steel until his retirement.

Matthew David Novotny, age 38, of Minneapolis passed away unexpectedly on August 7, 2022. Visitation and celebration of Matt’s life will be held on Friday, August 12 starting at 5:00 p.m. concluding with an 8:00 p.m. prayer service at Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur, Minnesota. Interment will be at St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery on a later date.

A man from Rice County died in an ATV rollover on August 6.
Marvin George David, 79, was pronounced deceased at 11876 140th St, in Montgomery when rescue officials found him trapped under an ATV.
According to Rice County Sheriff Jesse Thomas, deputies, Lonsdale Fire and Rescue, and Montgomery Ambulance were dispatched to the scene at 5:53 p.m. on a report of a possible deceased person trapped under the ATV.  
“The ATV/victim was located by the landowner's friend. When responding units arrived, the male was confirmed deceased,” Thomas said.

The primary election tomorrow (August 9), runs from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Residents in the City of New Prague will vote at the New Prague Fitness & Aquatic Center, 410 Central Ave. N
Residents of Elko New Market will vote at the Elko New Market City Hall, 601 Main St.
Those area townships that are having primary elections can find their election sites at https://pollfinder.sos.state.mn.us.

Elmer Harry Kukacka, age 85 of Montgomery passed away at his home on August 4, 2022. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 9 from 4 pm-8 pm at the Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 10 at 11am with visitation one hour prior at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery. Interment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery.

It was a busy and beautiful evening with sun and temperatures in the 80s for Czech Out New Prague on Thursday, Aug. 4. The annual event showcases the vast assortment of businesses, non profits, churches, and clubs in the New Prague area.
