Marcella Margaret Thorsen, 99 years young, entered her heavenly home on May 22, 2021. She lived her life on her terms including staying in her home for her entire adult life.

Robert Vogt Jr, age 76, of New Prague, died Thursday May 13th, at his home in New Prague.
A celebration of his life will be held at New Day Church in New Prague, June 7th at 11 am with visitation beginning at 9:30. Interment to follow on July 1st at 10:30 at Ft. Snelling Cemetery.

Family, friends and community members line Columbus Avenue near Falcon Ridge Elementary School on Sunday, May 23, as the New Prague High School Class of 2021 had its Graduation Parade. An estimated 100 vehicles of all sorts participated in the second year of the parade. Some vehicles had one senior as larger ones had five or more seniors. The weather stayed sunny and with temperatures at 77 degrees Fahrenheit. The parade wound through neighborhoods in the community. For more see an upcoming print issue of The New Prague Times. It was already a busy day for Laker’s New Prague Sanitary around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, during New Prague’s City Wide Clean-up. Held at the parking lot of the New Prague Memorial Park Baseball Stadium, the local business had four garbage trucks for trash, a bin for scrap wood, two for scrap metal and an area for batteries. The clean-up at the stadium is going on until 12 p.m. For information on what items can be dropped off check the City of New Prague’s website. There will also be document shredding at the City Hall’s parking lot from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Lucia Maria Fuechtmann (Da Silva), 70, passed away at her home in Webster, MN on Saturday morning, May 15, 2021.
Lucia was born on June 6, 1950, to Maria Carmelo in Angra Do Heroismo, Terceira, Acores, Portugal.
On December 8,1968, she married Robert Fuechtman of Melrose, MN at the Catholic Church of Angra Do Heroismo, Terceira, Acores, Portugal.
Lucia moved with Robert to the United States in 1971 where she raised five loving daughters and resided in Webster, MN for the next 39 years of her life.

The parents of New Prague High School’s graduating class of 2021 are coming together to honor the senior class with a Graduation Parade at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 23. Like last year’s parade, the parents are working with the New Prague Area School District and the City of New Prague to organize a parade that will take a route through the community.

New Prague High School has named Julie Schlup as its new Activities Office Assistant, pending approval by the New Prague School Board. Schlup is taking over for Lynn Swaggert, who is retiring. Schlup is coming from Tri-City United High School where she was the 7-12 grade Activities Administrative Assistant from 2016-2021. She and her husband, Brian, reside in New Prague. She enjoys vacationing with family in California and Tennessee. She also enjoys relaxing at the lake fishing with her husband Brian. For more see an upcoming print issue of The New Prague Times.

Prior Lake, Faribault, and New Market are each undefeated after the third weekend of the DRS Amateur Baseball Schedule.
Prior Lake picked up a pair of wins, downing Montgomery, 8-3, Friday, May 14 and edging Lonsdale, 3-2, Sunday, May 16.
The Faribault squad is 3-0 after defeating Elko, 13- 2, handing the Express their first loss.
New Prague, Lonsdale, St. Benedict, Union Hill, and Elko each have 2-1 records.

Terry J. Stepka, age 62, of Veseli, died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, May 19, 2021.  Terry was born on August 20, 1958 in Northfield to Jerry M.

Lukas Janicek was a dinner guest of the New Prague Czech Heritage Club on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. Lukas is an exchange student from his hometown of Rokycany, Czech Republic, and is a student at New Prague High School. His host parents are Jessica and Jeremy Dohm.
The dinner took place at the Fishtale Grill in New Prague, where all feasted on pork, dumplings, and kraut with vomacka. Lukas said the food was very good and very similar to the foods he enjoys in his Czech home. He commented that the word “vomacka” doesn’t mean “soup” but rather means “gravy” or “sauce”.

It was a clean sweep for the New Prague boys and girls track and field teams Tuesday, May 11 in their home Wright County Quadrangular.
The girls team finished with 115 points in defeating Waconia (85), Delano (40), and Holy Family Catholic (32).
The boys team results were almost identical, with the Trojans scoring 113 to win. Waconia (80), Delano (56), and Holy Family Catholic (22) finished 2nd through 4th.
The Lady Trojans earned six individual firsts, eight seconds, and six thirds. They also won a relay.

The New Prague girls golf team finished in the middle of the pack in a pair of nine hole matches at Creeks Bend in New Prague Wednesday, May 12.
Orono won both of the matches with low scores of 182 in match one and 163 in match two.
The Trojans scored 200 on the front nine in match 1, placing fifth among the eight Wright County Conference teams.
Hanna DeGross carded a 47 and Brynn Sticha a 48 to lead New Prague. The other varsity players included Raquel Ahrens (52), Avery Gullicksen (53), Macey Hager (56), and Brita Lillquist (61).

The Trojan boys lacrosse team finished up the week with a positive record to date. They are currently 5-4.
New Prague won the second matchup versus Southwest Christian on Saturday, May 15 in Chaska with a score of 14-5. They rolled over Holy Family on May 10th with a 13-1 win at home.

The City of New Prague has determined that the main store front of Downtown Sound, located at 104 E. Main Street is no longer unoccupiable based on a recent structural review relating to the building at 102 E. Main Street. Additionally the sidewalk will be open to Downtown Sound at 104 E. Main Street. The rear portion of Downtown Sound also remains open as it previously has been.

Margaret “Marge” (nee Matyas, Palmstein) Antony, age 95, of Prior Lake, MN, entered eternal peace with her family at her side, on Sunday, May 16, 2021. 

Rocky Stangler, 67, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery from 4:30 to 7 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 19, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Father Tom Niehaus officiating and visitation one hour prior.
