Cruising in the rain
Despite the rain, the Car Cruise of classic cars happened Friday evening, Sept. 18, with people lining the route down New Prague’s Main Street.
Caroline Pelant, age 89 of Northfield / Lonsdale, passed away Thursday morning, February 11, 2021, at Three Links Care Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00PM, Saturday, February 13, 2021, at the Church of St. Dominic, Northfield. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Masks are required and the funeral home will assist with social distancing. Interment will be in Annunciation Cemetery, Hazelwood.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
The Minnesota Twins have named New Prague High School Vice Principal Tom Wetschka an Education Hero for the month of February.
The Minnesota Twins’ program is to support and celebrate education professionals, teachers, administrators, and volunteers in Twins Territory. According to KEYC New Prague Times News of Mankato Brooklyn Russell, 16, of New Prague, was among two people injured in a two-vehicle crash the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 9, in Sibley County. The other person injured was Dean Dardis, 62, of Faribault.
The Sibley County Sheriff’s Office said it responded to the crash at the intersection of 336th Street, or Sibley County Road 8, and 337th Lane. The crash site was approximately one mile west of the city of Le Sueur.
New Prague City Utility workers cut into the street near the intersection of Pershing Avenue NE and Fourth Street NE the morning of Monday, Feb. 8, to get to a water main break. The break likely happened where the water main and a fire hydrant connect. The subzero temperatures from the past few days likely caused the break. Rebecca “Becky” L. Brahee, age 59, of Cologne passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021 in Cologne.
A Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
Rebecca “Becky” Lucille Schmitz was born September 7, 1961 in New Prague, MN the daughter of LeRoy and Verena (Sand) Schmitz. She graduated from New Prague High School in 1981. In 2010, Becky was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart.
Raymond J. Jaeckels, age 78, of Northfield, passed away Friday, February 5, 2021, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Raymond was born January 5, 1943, in Duelm, MN, the son of Henry and Hilda (Wegman) Jaeckels. At the age of 15, he moved south to Bloomington, Minnesota and this was the beginning of a 60-year career in the water well drilling business. He was united in marriage to Grace Stauffeneker on March 10, 1962. They made their home outside of Northfield where they raised their four children.

It’s the first week of February and that means there are already reminders being sent out as to what is being observed this month. Perhaps the three most well known are Valentine’s Day, Black History Month and American Heart Month. Of course there are those observances that are likely not as well known.

Edward Robert Burns, age 88, died of natural causes on January 29, 2021, in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
Dennis D. Johnson, age 81 of New Prague, MN passed away peacefully on January 17, 2021, after contracting Covid-19, which accelerated his battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Dennis was born August 29, 1939 in Blooming Prairie, MN to Menard and Meta (Stork) Johnson. When he was a young boy, the family moved to Elkton, MN. In 1958, he graduated from Elkton Public School where his lifelong love of football began.
