The news the New Prague City Council received at its Monday, Oct. 19, meeting was certainly no treat as they were told the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) was suspending sidewalk work along the west end of Main Street for the rest of this year due to the cold temperatures. The forecast has temperatures in the 30s with snow and the long range forecast is not much better.

I imagine that headline already has a few people thinking, “How dare you!” or “Bite your tongue!” The fact still remains we received snow on Tuesday and the temperatures in the area have been in the 30s for the last few days. Which is in fahrenheit, if it was celsius it would be around -1 degree.

Beginning Saturday, Oct. 24, the drive thru testing site at Mayo Clinic Health System in New Prague will be moved to inside the Mayo Clinic Health System in Belle Plaine clinic, 700 W. Prairie St. This move will provide staff and patients with a more convenient, safer and more comfortable testing location by protecting them from inclement Minnesota weather and improving efficiency.

Due to inclement weather and safety of staff and clients, Scott County Public Health has canceled the COVID19 testing clinic today, Tuesday October 20, 2020, at Elko Speedway. All registered participants have been notified. A date and time will be determined and those registered will be notified shortly about the re-scheduled date. Stay tuned!

James Clarence Reemts of New Prague, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, October 14th, 2020.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Marie, and brothers Ray, Gene, and  Ronnie and sisters Shirley and Ann. James was also preceded in death by his grandson, Noah.  

Dorothy Anna Clara Jasperson, age 75, of New Prague, died peacefully of Covid 19 complicated further by long-standing Parkinson’s Disease at Redeemer Health and Rehab Center in Minneapolis.  Dorothy was born on January 9, 1945 in Wanamingo, MN to Aron and Gina (Shelstad) Myran.  She graduated from Wanamingo High School, and went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree from Mankato State University, and a Master’s from St.

The New Prague High School senior class celebrates winning the B Powderpuff game 18-0 on Sunday, Oct. 18, at Trojan Stadium. The senior and junior teams showed a lot of energy during the game, held with overcast skies and temperatures around 34 degrees fahrenheit. An A Powderpuff game was held earlier with the seniors winning 12-0. The two games kicked off Homecoming week at New Prague High School. While the weather forecast on Friday, Oct. 16, calls for scattered rain showers there was a brief snowfall around 10 a.m. in New Prague. The flying flakes likely caused some groans from area residents. The good news is the snow melted as soon as it hit the ground. Soccer team ends regular season with 5-3-3 record
The New Prague girls’ soccer team played three matches during the month of October and had mixed results in those matches.
They defeated Mayer Lutheran, 3-1, Oct. 2, tied Mound Westonka, 4-4, Oct. 5, and were defeated by Waconia, 5-1, Oct. 8.
In the Mayer Lutheran win, the Trojans fell behind 1-0 before a goal by Josie Parent tied the score heading into halftime. “In the second half we really took control of the game,” head coach Matthew Anderson said. “We were composed and played fast.”

he New Prague Times There was no shortage of entertainment at Barten Pumpkins west of New Prague on Saturday, Oct. 10. While families were mainly taking time to find pumpkins for jack o’lanterns or for other decorative purposes, Jim Bendzick was busy firing off pumpkins from an air cannon at a target and artist Greg Preslicka was engaged in painting a mural on a barn.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, approximately 70 shoppers and 11 businesses participated in this year’s Ladies Night Out on Thursday, Oct. 8.
Brooke Sticha the Executive Director at the NP Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the event, said participation was expected to be down. However, she added that the board felt it was important to continue the popular event, which encourages local and non-local people to support New Prague businesses.

When October rolls around each year, most people’s thoughts go to Halloween, a time for costumes, jack o’lanterns, Trick or Treat, candy and for some adults decorations and their own parties. Of course there are a few thoughts about leaves falling to the ground. But the month is also one where several groups over the years have worked to make people aware of an assortment of causes.

Three board members, Violet Chromy, George Mikiska, and Jim Simon, attended the festival in Faribault.

New Prague High School introduced their 2020 Homecoming Royalty the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 14, by way of a video. The video can be seen here https://youtu.be/fx9WrRinUqU. The students are candidates for Homecoming King and Queen. Coronation is scheduled to be held in Trojan Stadium on Friday, Oct. 23, between 2:45-3:15 p.m. weather permitting. Members of the Veterans Memorial committee broke ground the morning of Saturday, Oct. 10, during a ceremony at Memorial Park in New Prague. The family of the late Marine Lance Cpl. Dale Means, plus members of the New Prague American Legion have been working on this project since 2012. They have raised funds through donations and many events.
