On Saturday, Oct. 10, at 10 a.m. there will be a ground breaking ceremony for the New Prague Veterans Memorial in Memorial Park. Area residents are welcome to come out and witness the event and show their support. The Veterans Memorial will be built east of the New Prague Library, south of Main Street. Eugene E. “Gene” Bisek, age 85, of New Prague, died peacefully after a brief illness on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis.  Gene was born on August 10, 1935 in New Prague to Emil F. and Mary N. (Novak) Bisek.  After graduating from New Prague High School, Gene entered the US Air Force and was stationed in Saudi Arabia.  He married Sandra Swygart in Vale, OR on February 2, 1957.  The couple had 3 children together.  Gene married Mary A.

The following applies to all indoor sports, concerts, plays, competitions, performances and any other similar events that have spectators. In an announcement Tuesday on the Montgomery Torchlight Parade and Firework's social media page, organizers stated the Holidazzle-like event will be canceled in 2020. They said it is due to "the pandemic restrictions by our state government."
"We would like to thank everyone for your support of this event. Unfortunately after careful consideration due to the pandemic restrictions by our state government we have no choice but to cancel the parade and fireworks for 2020" the post stated.

Betty Jabs, of Jordan, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.  She was 97 years old.  Betty was a wonderful woman and will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

The “Fall Colors Cruise” rolls out of Henderson the afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 3. Approximately 200 classic vehicles were participating in the 70 mile cruise that traveled through St. Thomas, Le Center, around Le Sueur County lakes to the Ottawa Road into Le Sueur and back to Henderson. The Henderson Classic Car Roll-In Committee hosted the cruise. Donations were also taken for the local food shelf that collected an estimated couple hundred pounds of food. The remainder of the Minnesota State High School League’s (MSHSL) activities calendar came into view Thursday, Oct. 1 during the Board of Directors meeting.
  After a presentation by the League’s Return to Participation Task Force, the Board of Directors approved a maximized winter activities season that trims 30 percent of the contest dates. By keeping the length of seasons generally intact, member schools will have the flexibility for rescheduling if contests are postponed because of COVID-19 related outbreaks or other interruptions.

The late Virginia Lucier Hoyt was given a heartfelt and rousing sendoff by 30 women who learned cheers from her, and eventually became friends. The brief ceremony came at the end of the funeral for Hoyt, or Miss Lucier as she was known for many years, on Thursday, Sept. 24, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in New Prague.

Lonsdale area residents came out the evening of Friday, Sept. 25, to support its local police department and the Rice County Sheriff’s Office. The Lonsdale Knights of Columbus hosted the event held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the staff of the Lonsdale Police Department honored for their work in the community. The....

The New Prague girls’ soccer team recorded three straight shutouts.
The Trojans fell to Holy Family, 5-0, Sept. 14. They rebounded with a 1-0 win over Jordan Sept. 15.
They ended last week with a pair of 0-0 ties against Orono Sept. 22 and Hutchinson Sept. 24.

The Office of the Le Sueur County Election Administrator announced on Friday that absentee ballots are now available to the public for the General Election (November 3, 2020).
Voters are strongly encouraged to apply online for an absentee ballot.
Online absentee ballot applications are currently available on the Minnesota Secretary of State website or Le Sueur County website.

The time has come again, another turn of the seasons as we see summer begin to fade away and fall arrive with a burst of colors. The leaves on trees are turning a bright red, yellow or orange. Some trees are just getting hints of those autumn colors with more green standing out, others give a hint of that change and then seem to don their fall wardrobe the next day. In the fields where there is still corn, the stalks are either a yellow or a gold. The grass that was a dark green a few weeks ago is now turning a lighter shade as it prepares for the slumber of winter.

The New Prague girls’ cross country team finished third in the Mound Westonka Triangular Sept. 22.
Delano was the team champion with 33 points. Mound-Westonka scored 41 and New Prague followed with 46 points.
Junior Nora Rosemeier led the Trojans with a fourth place finish in a time of 21:36 on the 5,000-meter course.
“Nora ran a balanced first and second half of the race,” head coach Shawn Brandt said. “She was able to maintain close distance to the top girls in the field by placing 4th overall.”

Area residents were able to enjoy a community gathering with food and entertainment, although in a different way. Nozinky took the place of Dozinky during this year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Food trucks and music were offered on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 16 and 17, in Memorial Park. A virtual Talent Show and Kolacky Eating Contest were held on Saturday, Sept. 19. On Sunday, Sept. 20, the Chamber held the judging for the Yard Decorating Contest with the theme Dozinky Through the Ages.

Julia M. Odenthal, age 76, of Le Center, died suddenly, in her daughter’s arms on Wednesday, September 23, 2020.  Julia was born on November 29, 1943 in Elko, Minnesota to Frank and Julia (Horejsi) Peterka.  Julia married the love of her life, Cornelius T. Odenthal on August 8, 1964 at St.

A tank from Chart Industries in New Prague slowly takes the corner at the intersection of Main Street and 10th Avenue NE (formerly Scott County Road 37) around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23. Crews hauled the tank from Chart Industries east on Seventh Street NE until it became 10th Avenue NE and then turned onto Main Street.
