Richard T. Mulcrone, “Dick”, age 89, of Shakopee, MN, entered eternal life on Monday, May 29, 2023, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee.
Dick was born in St. Paul, MN, on May 23, 1934, the son of Emmett and Gertrude (McCauley) Mulcrone. His father and grandfather were fire chief for Saint Paul. He grew up on Stanford and went to Central. He attended St. Thomas. Dick proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War, stationed at Myrtle Beach SC. He remarked how successful his service was in that Myrtle Beach was never attacked.

The New Prague High School softball team is still alive in the Section 2AAA softball playoffs after a tough loss to Mankato West Thursday.
Saturday, May 27, the Trojans advanced to play Tuesday, 5 p.m., at Caswell Park in North Mankato. NPHS advanced with a win over St. Peter and later a walk-off win over Marshall.

On a mild, late-spring evening, 300 seniors in New Prague High School's Class of 2023 graduated Friday evening and joined the ranks of the school's alumni.

Rice County officials are continuing to respond to a fire at the county’s landfill solid waste facility at East 145th Street in rural Dundas. The fire began in the landfill portion of the solid waste facility shortly after it closed for the evening on Monday, May 22.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but with assistance from state and local agencies, work is ongoing to mitigate any and all issues within the county’s control.

Joan (Joni) Glynn, 83, passed away peacefully at home on May 21, 2023, after a long fight against Parkinson’s Disease. 
Joan was born on October 20, 1939 to Isidor and Estella (Klinkhammer) Mahowald. Joan grew up in Shakopee and attended Shakopee schools. In addition to school, she helped care for her younger siblings,  tended the large vegetable garden for the family vegetable stand, babysat, and helped her mother clean several businesses so that she could spend more time with her. 

Members of New Prague High School's Class of 2023 enjoyed the annual senior send-off this afternoon at Next Chapter Winery south of New Prague.
The event included plenty of good food, games and the opportunity for the graduates-to-be to win prizes. It was capped off with a hypnotist show.
The Class of 2023 will graduate Friday, May 26, 7 p.m., from Trojan Stadium.

Bernie L. Pikal, 79, resident of Naples, Florida, passed away at Avow Hospice House on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. Bernie is survived by his wife Barbara Ann Pikal. He is the loving father of Kristen J. Shelton (Orval) and Chad J. Pikal (Carrie). He is also the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren along with five great-grandchildren. Bernie is survived by many loving family and friends.

Donna Lee James, age 75, of New Prague, died peacefully on May 23, 2023 at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital Mankato.  Donna was born on September 29, 1947 in Mankato to Peter and Marcella (Zastrow) Menten.  She graduated from Mankato High School and went on to attain her teaching degree from Mankato State College.  Donna taught in Waseca and after marrying Thomas P.

Memorial Day begins with the New Prague Veterans Honor Guard visiting area cemeteries to honor area veterans buried there. At each cemetery, the honor guard will read the names of veterans buried at the cemeteries followed by a 21- gun salute and the playing of Taps.

Rose Marie "Rosie" Seurer 
October 9, 1933 - May 20, 2023
Rose Marie (Hauer) Seurer peacefully passed away on May 20, 2023, at Three Links Care Center in Northfield. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be deeply missed. Rosie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vernon, her son, Nicholas, and her son-in-law, Tom Sexe.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Bev Sexe, Marty Seurer, and Susan (Kevin) Busch, as well as her grandchildren, Nick and Stephie.

Wilfred (Bill) Vogel Bill Vogel, 100, passed away peacefully at home on May 19, 2023. Bill was born on June 23, 1922 to Arnold and Elizabeth (Thelen) Vogel. He graduated from New Prague High School. After graduation he spent time at the First State Bank of New Market. In November of 1942 he entered the US Army. He was on active duty until January, 1946 and was so proud to be a WWII Veteran. He returned to the bank after giving service to our country. He remained working at the bank until his death. In September of 2022 he celebrated his 75th Anniversary at the bank.

Agnes “Aggie” Gast (Tiede), age 78, was called home by our Lord to be with the love of her life, Virgil Gast. Aggie passed away on May 10, 2023, at her home in Jordan, surrounded by loved ones. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and just recently became a great-great-grandmother.

George Slinkard passed away the evening of March 20, 2023 at his home in Rushford, MN.
George was born on January 27, 1943 in Clinton, IA to his parents Wayland and Odelia Slinkard. He was the oldest of eleven children. George graduated from New Prague High School in 1960. He married Nancy Donlan on September 21, 1968. They have one son, Kevin.

Deshawn Corbin, 25, passed away May 2.  He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Corbin.
  He is survived by his mother, Julie Anderson; sister, Emma Corbin; grandparents, David and Kathleen Anderson of New Prague; 6 aunts, 3 uncles, and 7 cousins.  Memorial service is May 11 at 1:30 p.m. at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato. 
In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to Steel County Transitional Housing.
