Cruising in the rain
Despite the rain, the Car Cruise of classic cars happened Friday evening, Sept. 18, with people lining the route down New Prague’s Main Street.
Stephen "Steve" Andrew Schultz, 38, of Montgomery, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2023 at 10:10 a.m. surrounded by family and friends. Stephen gave the gift of life through organ donation. As he had in life he gave what he could to help others without asking for anything in return. Steve was a quiet man, who loved his family and friends with a quiet fierceness that many did not see. He gave pieces of himself to everyone he met with a winning smile, wit and sarcasm.
Jane Marie Remes, age 92, passed away on May 4, 2023, at Benedictine Living Community in Northfield. Her last days were filled with family visits, memories of her life and of course, her grace.
Jane was born in Minneapolis in 1931 before being adopted at age 3 ½ by John and Marie Mach of New Prague who provided a wonderful childhood for their girl. Jane went on to graduate from Mankato State University before teaching Physical Education at Belle Plaine High School.
Raymond E. Cooney, age 91, of New Prague, formerly of Le Center passed away Friday, May 5, 2023, with his wife at his side at Central Health Care in Le Center. Ray was born on October 17, 1931 in Kilkenny Township to Charles and Mary (Warnemunde) Cooney. He attended country school and St.
Lawrence W. Peters, Jr., age 84, of New Prague, died peacefully in his sleep after a brief illness on Friday, May 5, 2023, at St. Gertrude’s Health and Rehabilitation Center. Larry was born on October 4, 1938, on the family farm in St. Benedict to Lawrence M. and Margaret D. (Lucas) Peters. He attended St. Benedict Parochial School and graduated from Jordan High School. He entered the US Army Reserves and during his service, he met and married the woman who captured his heart for the rest of his life, Juanita A. Mach. They married at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church on September 2, 1961.
The 5K race for Run New Prague led off the 38th annual event as runners left the starting line around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 6, in Memorial Park.
While overcast, temperatures were at 56 degrees Fahrenheit and the rain held off through Run New Prague.
Other events held during the morning event were the Kids Color Run and inaugural Push, Pedal, Pull race, which was made up mostly of members of the New Prague mountain bike team.

The Montgomery Area Community Club will host Czech May Day on Sunday from noon until 5 p.m. in Heritage Park in Montgomery, with a rainout date of May 13.
The fifth annual event welcomes in spring and features the raising of the Czech May Pole, a 20-30 foot pine tree with all the branches removed except for the very top, leaving a “Christmas Tree,” with ribbons and flowers. Ribbon dances will happen around the May Pole after it is raised.
Thomas E. Pexa, age 81, of New Prague died peacefully at home with his family at his side on Thursday, April 27, 2023. Tom was born on May 22, 1941 in New Prague to Joseph S. and Helen M. (Hanzlik) Pexa. He attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School and graduated from New Prague High School. Tom met his future wife Margie Pavek at a Park Ballroom dance in 1963, and the couple later married on September 10, 1966 at Most Holy Trinity Church in Veseli. Married for 56 years, Tom’s marriage to Margie created the foundation on which he centered his love and built his life.
Joseph T. Schiprett, age 89, of Lonsdale, died peacefully on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at his home. Joe was born on February 9, 1934 in Kilkenny, MN to Joseph B. and Mary A. (Mader) Schiprett. He served in the United States Army from 1954 - 1956. Joe married Helen M. Trcka on April 27, 1957. Together they bought a farm in rural Lonsdale and raised 7 children. They had been married for 50 years. He worked for 47 years at Robin Hood Flour Mill in New Prague, which became International Multifoods and then Conagra, retiring in 1997. Joe also ran a field tiling business and owned a hobby farm.
Leonard Charles Neubauer, age 100, passed away on April 27, 2023 at Central Healthcare in Le Center. He was formerly of New Prague. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Tuesday May 2, 2023 with visitation beginning at 9 a.m.. All services will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, (313 2nd St. E.) Jordan, MN. Leonard will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery of rural Jordan.
Sylvia H. Hill, age 79, of New Prague, died peacefully at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital Mankato on Sunday, April 30, 2023. Sylvia was born on December 27, 1943 on the family farm in Cedar Lake Township to Theodore B. and Helen M. (Stejskal) Cervenka. She attended St. Patrick country school and was a 1961 graduate of New Prague High School. Immediately after high school, Sylvia entered the work force while raising her two sons. She co-owned and operated St.
Robert C. Wieland, age 78, of New Prague, died peacefully in his sleep after a brief illness at Praha Village on Sunday, April 30, 2023. Bob was born on July 6, 1944 in New Prague to John H.
Delores M. Dvorak, age 94, died peacefully with her family at her side at her home at Praha Village on Thursday, April 27, 2023. Delores was born on December 24, 1928 in New Prague to Helmer and Anna (Krueger) Krohn. She attended New Prague Public Schools and met her husband, Rudy Dvorak, in New Prague. The couple married in the same church where Delores was baptized and confirmed, Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church on October 20, 1948.

Thomas M. Steiner, 69, born August 23, 1953, of Lonsdale passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023 after a courageous 20 month battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer.
After graduating from Jordan High School in 1971, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1975. In 1980, he met the love of his life Donna Oldenburg, and married in 1985, going on to have 2 children, Stacy and Brandon.
