The New Prague Trojan boys soccer team won two of three matches last week, defeating Mound Westonka and Rochester Century. The Trojans also lost to Holy Family Catholic. 
New Prague lost to Chaska 7-2 on Monday, Sept. 16. Details of that game will be in next week’s issue. 
The Trojans return to action Thursday, Sept. 19, when they host Waconia at 5 p.m. They play Mayer Lutheran at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at Watertown-Mayer HS, and will host Rockford on Thursday, Sept. 26.

The 2019 First Bank & Trust Dozinky Medallion has been found! It was discovered in its hiding spot the morning of Thursday, Sept. 19. Details on who won the $300 grand prize and where they found the medallion will follow.

The New Prague Trojan girls tennis team lost two matches last week, to Orono and Mankato East. 

Friday, Sept. 20, will mark the end of a career for Bob Hanek. 
 A barber since 1960 and the proprietor of Bob’s Barber Shop since 1972, Hanek will put down his clippers for the last time at his shop at 127 Main Street E, in front of Czecher’s New Prague Times Sports Bar. 
The son of a barber. Bob’s dad - also named Bob - had a barber shop in Montgomery for 67 years. retiring in 1996. Bob Sr. wasn’t in favor of his son going into the business. “He tried to talk me out of it… tried to talk me into doing something else,” he said. “Together we had 127 years in this business.”

It’s New Prague’s biggest annual event. The 35th Annual Dozinky Festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, with Dozinky Cruise Night set for Friday, Sept. 20. 

Nelson recognized with Golden Apple Award.
Nelson’s Apple Farms is observing two accomplishments this year, as the apple orchard near Webster is celebrating 45 years in business and owner Ross Nelson was recognized by the Minnesota Apple Growers Association with the Golden Apple Award. The award is given to recognize a person who has made contributions to the Minnesota apple industry.
 “It was nice,” said Nelson about receiving the honor. “I remember the guys that received it when I was starting out. They seemed to know the most about apples. I never thought I’d get it.”

The Elko New Market City Council provided direction for city staff concerning proposed changes to its ordinance for snowmobiles, golf carts and other special vehicles. The Thursday, Sept. 12, meeting drew nine people, the majority who asked questions or commended city staff on their work on the proposal
State statute says that if a city does not specifically permit the use of special vehicles (ATVs, UTVs, golf carts, mini-trucks and others) they may not operate on city streets.

The New Prague Trojan volleyball team swept Mankato East on Tuesday,Sept. 10, winning 25-13, 25-13, 25-18.
"It was a good night forTrojan volleyball, with New Prague sweeping at all levelsof play," Coach Angie Andersen said.

Leroy A. Reinke, age 82. Passed away Sept. 16, 2019.
Born Feb. 24, 1937 in Helena Twp, Scott County, rural New Prague to Alvin and Hilda (Boettcher) Reinke. Confirmed on May 13, 1951 at Friedens Lutheran Church, rural New Prague. Married May 15th, 1960 to Elisabeth  E. Krause at St. Johns Lutheran Church Willow Creek, rural Vernon Center, MN. Leroy was employed as a computer programmer prior to retirement. 

William “Bill” Frank Proshek, age 86, of New Prague, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center in New Prague. 

Betty L. Swenson, age 86, of New Prague, died peacefully in the presence of her loving family on Monday, September 16, 2019 at Ebenezer Aurora on France in Edina after a long battle with breast cancer.  Betty was born on June 7, 1933 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Charles Nelson and Johnnie Grace (Hunter) Wilson.  She grew up in Odell, Oregon, and graduated as valedictorian of her high school class.  She married the love of her life, Orvin E.

The New Prague Knights of Columbus of Council #2023 receive a blessing from Archbishop Bernard Hebda of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis at the end of the 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, Mass that celebrated the centennial of Council #2023. The celebration of the founding of the council continued with a social hour at the New Prague Knights of Columbus Hall, a dinner and a commemorative program with Archbishop Hebda as the keynote speaker. The second of a third tank from Chart Industries made its way down New Prague’s Main Street the night of Saturday, Sept. 14. The first tank travelled through New Prague on Friday, Sept. 13, and the third is scheduled to go through town the evening of Monday, Sept. 16, depending on weather. Runners in the Ninth annual Brain Power Walk/Run head out of Trojan Stadium in New Prague to continue the 5K course that went through nearby neighborhoods and ended back in Trojan Stadium the morning of Saturday, Sept. 14. Overall winner for the 5K was Maizie Deihl in about 20 minutes. She came back from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire to run the race. Chart Industries in New Prague will be shipping three 172,000-gallon tanks from its New Prague plant to a Minnesota River port in Savage over the next few days.
The first tank, which is 168 feet long, 17 feet wide and 18 feet tall, will leave the New Prague facility sometime Friday evening, Sept. 13. The tanks, which weigh 395,000 pounds empty, will head south on Highway 21 to Main Street, then go east on Main Street/Highway 19 through downtown New Prague and continue on to Highway 13, then head north on Highway 13 toward Savage.

Donald J. Grinde, age 40, of New Prague, died suddenly at his home on Thursday, September 12, 2019.  Donny was born on August 14, 1979 in St. Paul to Ronald J. and Kathy K. (Buchman) Grinde.  He grew up in the Lakeville area and attended Lakeville Public Schools.  He married the love of his life, Rachael M.
