A Waterville woman was arrested Saturday, March 16, after holding sheriff’s deputies and police at bay in a several-hour standoff on the 100 block of Sakatah Boulevard.
Saturday morning at 12:04 a.m., Ande Bremmer, 30, advised police in several phone calls she was upset how officers handled a domestic disturbance at the residence earlier in the night and she began making comments about shooting law enforcement and advised she had firearms and ammunition, according to a press release from the Le Sueur County Sheriff's Office.
Members of Lonsdale and the surrounding area listened to city and school leaders update them on the progress of the city and their schools on Thursday, Feb. 29 at the Lonsdale American Legion, coordinated by the Lonsdale Chamber of Commerce.

“It’s art for art’s sake,” TCU Art Teacher Tony Barnack told a group of students participating in Tri-City United’s 9th annual Art Night on March 1.
“Art is two things,” Barnack continued. “Art is us. We make art for us. We want to have that connection to our work. Art is also communal, and we make art in a communal space. That’s what tonight is about.”
In an eerie foreshadowing statement, the Montgomery Fire Department put out the message Sunday on Facebook saying, “Despite the super nice weather this weekend, please consider NOT burning anything this afternoon. With the elevated fire conditions this afternoon, it would be highly unsafe to burn anything.”
Temperatures soared into all-time record territory for March 3, with temperatures being broken across the state for the day. In the Twin Cities, it reached 74 degrees, which broke the old record of 65 that was set in 1905.
Four students from Tri-City United Montgomery’s Elementary and Middle School showcased their musical talents and dedication as they represented their school district at the inaugural Minnesota Music Educators Association (MMEA) Elementary All-Star Choir this Feb. 17 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
High school national tournament teams
Two Tri-City United Robotics teams, Team Kooler and Team Gear Train, have been invited to the 2024 CREATE U.S. Open Robotics Tournament in Council Bluffs, Iowa, from March 14-16. Qualified teams across the United States, Canada and internationally compete in this signature event. The high school tournaments will have four divisions, each division having approximately 45-55 teams competing.
Four of Montgomery Fire Department (MFD) members climbed 53 flights of stairs wearing gear and an air pack for the 2024 Fight For Air Climb (FOAC) firefighter challenge at the Capella Tower in downtown Minneapolis. They have currently raised $1,069, which goes to the American Lung Association for research.
A rural New Prague man was killed in a crash involving the three-wheeled ATV he was riding during the early-morning hours of Sunday, March 3.
The Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office reports at 2:05 a.m., Matthew James Soller, 33, of rural New Prague was found partially under a three-wheeled ATV on Le Sueur County Road 121, approximately a quarter-mile south of Highway 19 in Derrynane Township. Soller was removed from under the three-wheeler and life-saving efforts were performed. Soller was ultimately pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
The New Prague Fire Department dealt with a fire along Main Street that was more smoke. In a preliminary report around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, firefighters responded to a report of a fire at an apartment at 112 Main Street E.

Each year, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) selects elementary (grades K-5), middle (grades 6-8), and high school (grades 9–12) teachers to participate in the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher program.
Founded in 1899, the VFW supports the education of America’s youth. The VFW identifies and recognizes teachers who instill a sense of national pride in students, promote civic responsibility, flag etiquette, and patriotism in their classrooms.
The search for a museum space to display and store items for the Montgomery Historical Society (MHS) continues. This was one of the messages at their annual meeting at the Rustic Farmer on Main on Jan. 31.
Tri-City United High School’s one-act team, performing “How High Is Up?”, is advancing to the section 2A finals in Waseca on Saturday, Feb. 3.
“How High Is Up?” is written by Brendan Murray. It is the story of Little Star’s quest to save her friend’s life by trying to make time stand still instead of allowing seasons to change. Interesting characters come along Little Star’s journey, including meeting The Bird Who Has No Wings and The Magician of the Silent Snows.
The Legion bar was open for drinks and Taco Terco was open for food in the American Legion ballroom Friday night during Tri-City United Montgomery K-6 Parent-Teacher Organization’s second annual Glow-A-Thon.
This event was sponsored by the PTO, and it was a huge success with approximately 150 people attending. PTO President Megan Duffney said, “It’s not so much a fundraiser as an event for the whole family to attend.”
A two-vehicle crash called into Le Sueur County Sheriff’s dispatch at 5:59 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, at the intersection of Le Sueur County Roads 3 and 28 ends in minor injuries.
According to the incident report from the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office, a white 2014 Chevy Silverado traveling westbound on County 28, driven by 20-year-old Addison Hartshorn of New Prague, was struck on the passenger side by a red 2017 Ford Escape, driven by 20-year-old Maxim Lee of New Prague.
Shelby (Giesen) Hartman was disappointed when she heard Mayo Health System New Prague had decided to stop providing labor and delivery services for the community. To her, it’s sad the community hospital will no longer be a place where local moms and dads can go to deliver their newborns.
