Veteran’s Day is Saturday, Nov. 11, but Montgomery will be honoring their veterans on Friday, Nov. 10 this year.
The first event is a public veteran’s mass at Most Holy Redeemer Church at 8:30 a.m. Following the service, guests will be treated to coffee and rolls, and VFW Post 5340 and Auxiliary will present awards to the top three Most Holy Redeemer School winners in the VFW Patriot’s Pen Contest.
In a press release from the Cannon River Drug and Violent Offender Task Force (CRDVOTF) on Oct. 27, agents were said to be conducting a narcotics investigation over several weeks on a residence at 203 Boulevard Avenue NE in Montgomery. The residence is within a block to the north side of Tri-City United Elementary and Middle School.
The release says that the investigation involved the sales of methamphetamine and cocaine by Benjamin Birk, a 24-yearold resident of that address. Agents said they received several citizen tips in regard to Birk’s activity.
Sitting around a u-shaped table set-up at Montgomery City Hall on an average Wednesday, Oct. 25, were a group of humble, happy, kind and welcoming people meeting as members of the Degree of Honor. The celebration this month — acknowledging the members that have made it to 50 years with the organization.
Members Mark Richter, Mary (Ruhland) Tupy and Stacey (Pan) Brown all received a special pin from Degree of Honor from the Montgomery chapter president, JoAnn Petricka, in commemoration of their milestone.

Many families of Most Holy Redeemer School celebrated Halloween early on Friday, Oct. 27. They were greeted with various games with prizes, goodie bags, activities and a very popular dinner — hot dogs!
Some of the games included a homemade ring toss and a magnetic dart board. The prizes vary from small things like pencils to sought after larger bags of snacks and candy. Every child went home with something though from their goodie bags, which included plastic wearable vampire teeth, some snacks and some essentials like pencils.
Larry Myers, a 79-year-old Vietnam veteran, died after receiving a severe beating from a road rage incident with Leslie Shawn Sanders in June 2022. Myers suffered facial fractures and a significant brain injury in the ordeal, was placed on life support and passed away nine days after the incident.
“Since the legalization of marijuana passed the legislature there has been a scramble to enact laws and ordinances pertaining to its use, growing, transportation and possession. Most municipalities in the area have chosen to enact a conservative approach to the aforementioned. State laws will be maintained, but the state legislation has given each municipality options into how they want to govern themselves. Through the multiple meetings leading up to August 1, 2023, everyone is expecting changes to the original language in the bills.
Youth musicians filled the Tri-City United Performing Arts Center (PAC) Monday for the annual Fall Band & Choir Concert.
The Choir, under John Sosa's direction, started the show by performing three pieces with Robyn Menk on piano accompaniment. They included “Spark of Light,” “Pulse” and “Another Day of Sun.”
Sosa commented on the group’s growth in the two years he has been at TCU, saying their dedication has made the program stronger.

Molter's Fresh Market, taking over the former home of Mackenthun’s Fine Foods at 105 Boulevard NW in Montgomery, is set to open on October 16.
The hours for the new grocery store will be Monday-Saturday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Contractors were already on site early this week preparing the location for opening.
According to a press release from the Montgomery Police Department, a worker at Seneca Foods plant in Montgomery died early Thursday morning.
The release said that a call came in at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5 for “a report of an employee that had been trapped by falling items located in a warehouse.” The release said the employee died from the injuries sustained in the incident.
Montgomery Police, Le Sueur County Sheriff, Montgomery Area EMS, and Montgomery Fire Department were all dispatched to the scene.
Tri-City United scheduled homecoming parades today in Lonsdale, Montgomery and Le Center to celebrate the high school’s homecoming week. Homecoming queen Alice Schroeder and king Luke Skluzacek were headliners of the parade in Montgomery Friday morning.
The day’s festivities included a marching band at the morning parade, an afternoon pep fest where the juniors won the four-way tug-of-war competition and fun events.
Mary Ann and Roger Heyda couldn’t imagine anyplace else they might have been Sunday besides at Moly Holy Redeemers’ festival. A warm sunny day and bright sunshine made the festival a delightful option for the day.
Tri-City United held its homecoming coronation ceremony Monday, Sept. 25, at TCU High School in Montgomery.
Motorists from New Prague, Montgomery and the area who use use Highway 21 through Jordan, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced today the Highway 21 and County Road 66/Sawmill Road roundabout in Jordan will fully open at 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 29.
Crews began building the $3.06 million roundabout project June 12, resulting in a total closure of Highway 21, Sawmill Road and County Road 66 at the intersection. Sawmill Road access reopened Sept. 1.
Public health workers in Scott and Le Sueur counties are encouraging people who haven’t recently been vaccinated to consider receiving the latest vaccines aimed at minimizing the impacts of COVID and fighting its spread.
