Junior Lupita Lopez and sophomore Kinsley Mach were named the Most Valuable Players on the Tri-City United (TCU) girls soccer team this fall.
Lopez was named the Titan Defensive MVP and Mach was named the Titan Offensive MVP.
Lopez finished the 2024 season with seven goals and six assists. She was also recognized as a Big South All-Conference Honorable Mention selection.
Mach led the team with 10 goals and added two assists. Her efforts also saw her receive the Titan Golden Boot Award which is given to the team’s top scorer.

The first season in the Big South Conference for the Tri-City United (TCU) boys soccer team was very successful.
The Titans placed second in the Black Division with a 3-2-1 record. They ended with a 12-5-2 overall record and were the Section 2A Runners-Up.
Four Titan players received honors from the Big South Conference coaches.
Seniors Damian Torres and Alan Ortiz, junior Nick Mendez, and freshman Angel Ruiz Gomez were named to All-Conference Teams.

The season for the Minnesota River girls hockey team started Thursday, Nov. 7 with a game at Mankato All Seasons Arena.
The Bulldogs were defeated by Mankato East, 4-1.
The lone goal for Minnesota River was scored by Noelle Simonette at the 9:08 mark in the second period. There were no assists on this goal.
Mankato East scored goals in all three periods and were led by Brielle Newton, who scored three of her team’s four goals.
Annika Magelee stopped 21-of-25 shots for the Bulldogs. Jordan Thomas allowed one goal in facing 14 shots for the Cougars.

Tri-City United High School junior Ella Schmiesing returned home today with two medals from the 2024 Minnesota State High School League's Swimming and Diving Championships in Minneapolis.
Schmiesing took second place in the 100 yard freestyle, behind Adalynn Biegler - a junior from Monticello. Schmiesing also took home third place in the 50 yard freestyle, coming in within milleseconds of Biegler, who took first place, and Izzy Westling, who took second place.

The Tri-City United (TCU) girls swimming and diving team claimed two individual titles and one relay championship in the Big South Conference Championships Saturday, Oct. 26 at St. Peter.
Junior Ella Schmeising won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke. The 100-yard freestyle relay team of senior Olivia Onken, senior Tahlia Buckingham, freshman Grace Harmeyer, and eighth grader Emma Krenik were also champions.

Tri-City United (TCU) junior Grant Fitterer closed out his 2024 season with a 47th place finish in the Section 2AA Cross Country Championship which was held at Benson Park in North Mankato.
Fitterer was clocked in 18:41 on the 5,000-meter course to lead the Titans. Mankato East senior Audi Thom won the race in 15:44.

For the second straight year the Tri-City United (TCU) boys soccer team advanced to the Section 2A Championship.
Unfortunately for the second time the Titans were shutout in their attempts to make their first State tournament appearance.
Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa, the No. 1 seed in the section, shutout TCU, 5-0, to earn their State Tourney bid.

In her last cross country race of her stellar career, Tri-City United (TCU) senior Yasmin Ruiz had a great performance at the Section 2AA Cross Country Championships Thursday, Oct. 24 at Benson Park in North Mankato.
Ruiz placed 15th overall among the 72 runners entered in a time of 20:20. She was only four places away from advancing to State.
Fairmont senior Macy Hanson won the girl’s race in a time of 17:52 on the 5,000-meter course. St. Peter junior Keira Friedrich and freshman Lucia Penner placed second and third in 18:27 and 19:08, respectively.

The Tri-City United (TCU) boys soccer team shut out two opponents in the Section 2A soccer tournament last week.
Those two wins move the Titans into the Section 2A Championship Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Austin against No. 1 seed Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa.
TCU blanked Wings United, 6-0, Thursday, Oct 10 in Montgomery and did not allow a score in a 3-0 semifinal win over St. Peter Saturday, Oct. 12 in Montgomery.
In the opening match victory, the Titans got three assists and a goal from Cooper Sutherland and three goals from Angel Ruiz Gomez.

“We started slowly as Waseca jumped out to a quick 21-0. After the initial surge, we were able to slow down their explosive offense and get some turnovers,” said Head Football Coach Matt Collins. “After the first quarter, we went back and forth with them, and we had a couple of nice drives. We did a really good job stopping their run game throughout all four quarters.”

Schmiesing sets school record in 200 IM
TCU junior Ella Schmiesing set a new school record and her teammates combined to defeat Math and Science Academy, 65-32 Thursday, Aug. 29.
Schmiesing’s record was in the 200 IM in a time of 2:18.23. The new record breaks the mark set by Mallorie Plut.

TCU sophomore Kinsley Mach scored four goals to lead the Tri-City United girls soccer team to a 6-1 win over Windom/St. James/Madelia Tuesday, August 27.
Sophomore Kirra Flicek and freshman Camila Perez also added goals.
Junior Lupita Lopez had two assists and Perez and freshman Layla Estevez each added one assist.
The Titans are 2-2 this season after losing a 2-0 contest to Triton, Friday, Aug. 30.
TCU will host New Ulm Thursday, Sept. 5 and Sibley East Monday, Sept. 9. Tuesday, Sept. 10 they will play at Waseca.

More than 50 teams and close to 400 runners competed in the Thursday, Sept. 5 Gerry Smith Invitational at the Montgomery Golf Club.
The Tri-City United girls team placed 16th among the 25 full teams, scoring 382 points. Waconia won the race with a score of 61. Belle Plaine placed second with 1226 and Mound Westonka was third with 157.
Senior Yasmin Ruiz led the Titans with a 13th place finish in 20:27. Fairmont senior Macy Hanson won the race in 18:20.

The Mallard baseball season came to a conclusion on Sunday at the Mini Met in Jordan on Sunday, losing to the Waconia Lakers 6-1 in the second round of the Minnesota Baseball Association state tournament, falling short of advancing to the final 16 teams that will continue playing Labor Day weekend.

The TCU Legion Boys Baseball Team, ages 19 and under, fell Tuesday, July 30, at the 2024 Minnesota American Legion Division 1A State Baseball Tournament in Burnsville after a breeze of a game the day before. Holy Family Fire would go on to win the state tournament against Red Wing in the championship game Sunday, Aug. 4, shutting out Red Wing 8-0. TCU Legion played and lost in both games against the number one and two placed teams at the tournament, the silver lining to the end of a good run this year.

Another three-game week for the Mallards, with only one DRS League game left before playoffs, going 1-2 on the week with an overall record of 13-10-1 and 9-8 in the league. The Mallards are just one game away from securing a spot in the top six of league standings, earning a bye into Region 3C playoffs, beginning Sunday. August 4.
