The Titan Tennis team got off to a great start when they hosted Maple River on September 16, but ended up losing the match 3-4 against the Eagles.
Titan Coach Diane Tiede said the No.1 doubles of MacKenzie Holmbo and Alexis Hoefs got off to a great start in their match, but just seemed to run out of gas in the end.
She also noted that Cynthia Balcazar and Kacie Traxler battled from behind to get a well-earned win at No. 3 doubles.

The TCU Titan Volleyball Team had a full day at the net Saturday when the team participated in the Waterville- Elysian-Morristown Volleyball Tournament in Waterville.
TCU played five teams in the Pool B. The Titans played games against Cleveland, Minnetonka, St. Clair and Grand Meadow twice.
Against Cleveland, TCU lost both sets 10-25 and 22- 25.
Against Minnetonka, TCU lost both sets 15-25 and 14- 25.

The Titans continued their winning streak beating Sibley East 20-7 in a Saturday afternoon conference game in Montgomery.

In the Wolverine’s first possession, running back/ defensive back Cole Franek intercepted a Sibley East pass, giving the Titans control. However TCU failed to capitalize on the possession and turned it over on downs. The back-and-forth quarter continued without either team scoring.

Three of the four teams from the DRS Amateur Baseball League were eliminated in the first round of the Class C State Tournament last weekend.
Kimball defeated Union Hill (3-0), Luxemburg downed St. Benedict (5-2), and Bemidji ended New Prague’s season (12-3).
St. Patrick is the lone team remaining from Region 3C. They received a first round bye and will play Austin Saturday, Aug. 28 at 11 a.m. at Waconia. Austin defeated Paynesville (6-2) in the first round game.
In the New Prague loss, Bemidji used a draftee pitcher to shut down the potent Orioles offense.

Even though school is out for the summer, members of the TCU Robotics Club have been hard at work building, programming and driving their robots.
The most recent competition was a three-day tournament at the Benton County Fair in Sauk Rapids. Club Advisor John Head said the event was special since it was the first event in the world for the 2021-22 season.
He said because of this, all the robots were quite unique in their designs, and there weren’t really predetermined tactics in game strategies.

St. Patrick scored two unearned runs in the 9th inning and one more in the 10th inning to come from behind to defeat Union Hill for the Region 3C Championship Sunday, August 15 in St. Patrick.
The Irish, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, trailed 7-5 after the Bulldogs scored a run in the top of the 9th to take a 7-5 lead.
Kal Brohmer and Ryan Friedges singled with one out in the 9th. They both scored following an error by the third baseman and an error by the left fielder, tying the game at 7-all.

Kristen Munden was offered, and accepted, the Head Boys Swim & Dive Coach position at New Prague High School, pending approval by the New Prague School Board.
The 2021-22 winter sport season will be the first year that Boys Swim & Dive is offered at New Prague High School.
Kristen started her swimming career on the YMCA swim team in Rochester from age 8-18. She continued swimming for Rochester Mayo High School from 7th - 12th grade.
After her personal career ended, she transitioned into coaching the sport she loves, swimming.

With one week to play, the final games of the DRS Amateur Baseball League schedule will be very important for playoff seeding.
St. Patrick (17-4 record) has clinched the No. 1 seed in the Region 3C Tournament, which will begin Sunday, August 8. Union Hill (14-7) and Faribault (12-8) have clinched league playoff byes. There are five byes available and five teams will be battling this week for those spots.
Montgomery (11-8), New Prague (11-9), St. Benedict (10-12), Lonsdale (9-11), and Prior Lake (9-11) are all in contention for the final two first round playoff byes.

St. Patrick, Faribault, and Montgomery are on the upswing in the DRS Amateur Baseball standings. Prior Lake is heading the other way.
The Irish lead the league by three games with a 14-3 record after downing Prior Lake, 7-6, in 11 innings Sunday, July 11. The loss was one of three this past week by the Lakers.
Faribault is 4-1 in their past five games and have climbed into third place with an 11-6 record. Union Hill is in second place with a 10-5 record.

The Tri-Legion Baseball Team’s bats have been swinging over the past week. The team played Waterville on June 25, Le Sueur on June 28, and Kenyon-Wanamingo on June 29.
On June 25, the team beat the Waterville Legion Team by a 2-0 score. The Tri-Legion team put its first point on the board in the second inning when Dylan Hollum scored off a Chris Johnson hit.
In the sixth inning, Jayson Macho doubled, and was batted home by Johnson.
“That was a great, great game,” said Coach Tim Moravec. “The kids played really well.”

Amateur baseball doesn’t see a ton of home runs.
Very few hitters hit more than one, or possibly two in a game.
Union Hill shortstop Nathan Berg put on a power hitting show which probably has not been seen in many, many years.
Berg struck out in his first at bat Wednesday, June 30 against New Market. He then proceeded to hit home runs in four of his next five at bats, including a solo home run which provided the Bulldogs with the winning run.
To make Berg’s game even better, he closed out the contest in the bottom off the 10th, picking up the save in a 7-6 win.

The Montgomery Community Foundation (MCF) supported two local projects that are building a stronger community when it awarded two grants totally $1,800 on Friday night.
The first recipient was $800 to the local Girl Scouts for their Community Silver Garden project. The second was $1,000 to the Memorial Park Log Cabin Restoration Project.

The Tri-City United Softball Team finished its season with an 11-10 record, ending in the Elimination Bracket Round 1 of the Section 2AA playoffs with a 3-4 loss against Maple River.
But the team still had successes post-season.
Three members of the team were named Academic All- State softball players. They are Rachel Rynda, Nikaija Young, and Isabelle Factor.
Two members were also named All-Conference by the Minnesota River Conference. They are Ellaina Novak and Brooke Blaschko.

Only one game separates four teams vying for second place in the DRS Amateur Baseball Standings after games played Sunday, June 27.
St. Patrick, winners of 10 games in succession, is in first place with a 12-3 record. Prior Lake (9-4), Faribault (9-5), New Prague (8-5), and Union Hill (8-5) are battling for the second spot heading into the final month of the season
Faribault and New Prague have each won their last two games. The Orioles are 4-1 after a 4-4 start.

The Tri-Legion Baseball Team (Montgomery, Le Center, Lonsdale) battled backand- forth against Cleveland on Monday night toward a 14-13 victory.
Tri-Legion got off to a running start in the bottom of the first inning when athletes scored three runs to Cleveland’s zero. With Carter O’Malley on the mound for the team, the teams had a scoreless second inning and each with single runs in the third.

While there weren’t any champions crowned at the State Track Meet last weekend, several Tri-City United athletes had the honor of competing among the best in the state.
TCU sent Marco Reyes, Jordan Meyer, and the girls 4x800 relay team (Anabelle Davies, Josie Plut, Makayla Erickson, Yasmin Ruiz, and alternate Gaby Daulke) to the Class A event.
Boys’ coach Craig Nordling said after the season started with so many unkowns, it ended on a high note for these athletes.
